DC04 Cyclone fins: Directon - Performance
« on: March 31, 2017, 06:08:29 pm »
Do the fins on the DC04 cyclone direction make any difference, ive seen machines with both the one fin pointing forwards, and other machines with them pointing offside:
Lets pretend the front of the bin where the handle is is N, Rear of the bin where the back clip, clips is S,  than left W and right E. North south east west.
So ive seen some machines with the fins pointing
N,E,S,W
and others with them pointing,
N-E, S-E, S-W, N-W.

does the direction make any difference at all, ive tried both but cant really tell so thought id ask the possibly more experienced

Not at all :))

TBH the way they are meant to be is the way DC07 fins are, like OCD straight. I believe the fins are just there to stop excessive dirt spinning which scratches the bin, cos Dysons just got more and more powerful as they evolved form the DC01/03 with no fins.

Some will only fit in one way due to a pip in the bin and a cut-out on the fins.

I once had a early DC04 green lime where the fins wern't dc07 direction. but the other way, that bin hadn't ever been messed with, that was factory.

My fins have a little line poking out, and behind the bin theres a cut out that alighns perfectly with that, but it doesnt stop if going in any other direction

on this subject... Do DC01 cyclone inserts fit the DC04 bins because Ive seen one dc04 on ebay where it had the entire cyclone etc. but no fins on the bottom half (insert) Also does it make any performance difference if it does fit

They make NO difference at all mate
Fins don't affect the airflow at all, cos the suction from the shroud goes straight to the ducting

And yeah DC01 ones do fit

NP mate, and another function btw of the fins is to compress the dirt with the centrifugal cyclonic force to make more space in the bin

That's interesting.  So if you take out the fins you'll be left with free-spinning fluff?   :))
