Motor mount straight and offset.
« on: May 18, 2017, 05:53:14 pm »
  Hello ,
   I recently purchased a scrap DC07 to repair for my own use. Indeed motor was burnt out. So I got a cheapie from Ebay.
  When trying to fit it - I was completely baffled by the fact that the motor mount rubber didnt seem to fit the end of the motor properly. The hole didn't line up with the spindle of the motor. And motor wouldn't fit fully in its housing.
   I looked at various forums but got no help.
   By browsing Ebay I eventually noticed 2 types of motor mount - one with an offset and one without. Now I had already unfortunately thrown away the old motor so couldn't compare the two motors.
   Anyway i bought a new mount with no offset, and machine went back together and is working fine.
    Can anyone tell me the purpose of the offset and why is it that none of the replacement motors on Ebay make any mention of the offset ?
     Thanks,
                        Davidgareth.

Do you mean the rubber mounting at the belt spindle end? It has 2 differing sized protrusions that line up with the motor housing, you have to offer up the motor and ensure the cable runs correctly, then push the rubber mount onto the two holes that best align, then a smear of something slippery (washing up liquid, grease, veg oil) around the inside of the motor housing (fit the metal belt guard if it's a non clutched machine) then push it home, ensuring the two protrusions line up.

I've never had an issue with any of the pattern motors I've ever used, got a link to the ebay listing? The two differing kinds of mount may be DC04 or DC07, the DC04 does not have the differing protrusions, just 2 holes that the tangs on the motor housing fit into.

  The part numbers I've found are 903364-01 this is the one with no offset. Also part number 535101 this is with the offset.
   Both parts are described as suitable for DC07 .
   By offset perhaps I should clarify that the offset one has a hole which is not repeat not in the middle, whereas the other one is.

It seems you are correct, I can't say I've ever noticed a difference before...

This is 903364-01

https://picclick.co.uk/DYSON-DC04-DC07-DC14-YV-2200-YDK-TYPE-112180555680.html is 535101

You tried opening out the centre hole that fits around the motor itself to centre it up? It doesn't seal suction, as long as the two rubber nipples push into the holes on the motor and the locating lugs the other side fit the motor housing it will be fine.

Anyone know why there is a difference?

  With the nipples in the holes and the lugs correctly lined up - the motor spindle was significantly not in the centre of the hole in the housing and, also, try as i might - i could not push the motor fully home. I tried washing up liquid but still couldn't, and I drew the conclusion that the mounting with the offset was preventing the motor going fully forward. That is why i had a look around Ebay and found the different mounting. With the new mounting getting the motor home in the housing was a doddle - straight in.
  since I bought the machine as scrap on ebay I can only offer a vague guess that perhaps it was not a complete DC07 and may be a composite of bits of different models ?

  Another point I should have mentioned - this is a model with a clutch.

DC04s have one of two top motor mounts, one for Ametek motors and one for YDK.

DC07s have one as they all have a YDK.

DC14s with a YDK have one type, the Samsung ones have another type as below.

DC33s have YDK so have the same top rubber as DC07 and DC14 YDK. Bottom rubber can differ depending which variant of YDK fitted.

Woaw so samsung motors have slightly less tension on the fan belt?

Ha Ha - yes we've all learned something - I bought a mount part number 903364-01 which was described as YDK but in fact was for Samsung motor not YDK. The correct mount for YDK is 535101.
  Thanks to all for clearing this up !!!

Yeah what DysonsAndMore said  - does that mean the Samsung motors have slightly less tension on the belt because the motor spindle is slightly nearer?

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum & I've been reading many threads & picking up lots of tips.

However, I've just stripped a very well-worn DC07 Origin which was fitted with an 'offset-type' top motor mount which was marked 'YDK Only'.  My interpretation on MVac's post above is that the offset mount is for a Samsung motored DC14 & not a DC07.

Also, in Beko 1987's thread where he reassembles a DC07 Origin (Nov 11, 2014) the top motor mount looks like an offset type, unless my eyes are deceiving me.

Could it be that all the non-clutched DC07's are fitted with this type of mount?  Seems unlikely with the number of experienced repairers who post on this site.  Am I right in thinking that the steel 'guide plate' which fits over the rubber mount is only used on non-clutched machines?

Ive only seen dc07's fitted with a YDK-2200 or Panasonic, both use the exact same mounts. Im gonna re-read this thread than gather some ideas since im totally confused about dc07, 14 mounts, offset and who knows whatelse  :boggleeye: :boggleeye: :boggleeye:

And for your belt gaurd question - Yes only the non-clutched dysons are fitted with this, although i have used the belt guard on a clutched dyson, and similarly without one on a non-clutched with no issues.

Ok so from what im reading: David has found an offset (Samsung) mount in his DC07, Beko has found one randomly in a box, and MVacs say that the DC07 only has the YDK/Panasonic straight mount, and the DC14 has the YDK straight and Samsung offset?

So providing my thoughts are correct - Davids DC07 has previously been fitted with a Samsung motor from a DC14, Beko has found an old mount for a Samsung so high possability from a DC14?
All that adds up, but then donstuart throws a spanner in my works (No Offense) because he found an offset mount in a DC07, So either theres two DC07's in this thread that have has a samsaung motor shoved in, or changing what MVacs said about the DC07 only having YDK:
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
so from what ive gathered -

DC04 = Ametek and YDK
DC07 = Samsung and YDK/Panasonic
DC14 = Samsung and YDK

Thats all I can think, ive yet to come across anything other than 1 Panasonic and loads of YDK's
if I have a find on some Samsung motors and their machine ill chirp in since im not dealing with Dysons, rather than just helping people here - im now a refurbisher. Infact ive even got my nan on my waiting list  :icon_nod:
