dyson dc 14 animal making horrible noise
« on: July 04, 2012, 10:18:58 pm »
I have a dc14 animal that is making a horrible noise. The only thing i can think of is that the post motor lid snapped in a couple of places and is not staying all the way down. When I looked closer I noticed that the motor cover had one of the tabs broke too. So could that be why it's making this ear piercing sound.

Can you describe the noise in any more detail Tammy please?

Are you sure its coming from the motor, or could it be the brush roll?

What colour is the machine? (So I know which variant).

I have a the purple dc 14 animal. It's not coming from the brush bar. It is coming from around the dirt container. Not sure how to describe it. It's very high pitched.

Try removing the HEPA filter (the one under the cannister) and tell me if it still does it?

If the noise is coming from the motor outlet area, and we have discounted the clutch, brush roll and a blocked HEPA filter, all that is left seems to be motor bearings. That means you are probably looking at a new motor. A high pitched screeching sound would reinforce that.

Anyone else who has any other thoughts, do please chime in.

Is the motor hard to change. I'm pretty handy and probably figure it out with some assistance. Can you help and do you sell them? Thanks!!

We don't sell American specification 120v motors, you will find them on Sears or US eBay.

Many people get the DC07 workshop manual to swap a motor on a DC14. Minor parts may differ but the machines are very similar.

Thanks so much for your help. I think I'm going to purchase a refurbished one on the website.
