A few people have asked us how to strip down a DC15 to access the motor, so we decided to do a tutorial.

You need a T15 screwdriver to strip this down. We sell those here: Dyson T15T Star Screwdriver

Start by taking the top filter cover off by releasing the three clips. The back hose has to be off to release the back one.

Then remove the side hose and valve cover.

Now we are going to take off the head.

There are two clips that interlock and pull out sideways.

Don't start tugging it yet.......

Remove these three screws.

I unplug the two wires shown from the PCB at this point.

These wires are inclined to break affecting power to the brushroll motor, and it also allows you to check the PCB for heat damage (which this one has).

Now undo these two screws.

So you can remove these two parts.

There are now two screws here and spade connectors behind the cover.

The head can now be manipulated off and great care must be taken to observe where the wires are routed and how they come out.

That can be fiddly.

You should now have this.

Now the yoke assembly can be manipulated off.

Now you can unscrew the four screws holding the ball together.

The ball comes off like so.

This gives you access to the inner motor casing, which is undone with five further screws.

Which now gives you access to the motor.

The motor (in this UK model) is an SDS1104GZD. If you need to replace the motor, we sell them here: Dyson DC15 Motor.

Remember to change both filters at the same time you replace a motor.

Hi all,
I bought a SDS1104GZD motor for my DC15 about 6 months ago but was kindly given a vacuum cleaner so I am only just getting around to fitting it, my problem is that I removed the old motor (in order to get the correct details to order the new one) but didn't mark up the spade ends.

Now I have come to fit the new one and the spade ends give no indication of which is live & neutral...... the only thing I can see is that one of the spades has a white wire connected inside the motor.
Any help would be most appreciated.

How can you tell which side to plug the live and neutral wires into the motor as there is no indication on the new motor we have purchased.

Are the spades both the same size? I haven't got one in front of me to check.

Thanks so much for this post! Your post and pictures along with beko1987's post (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,1478.msg7048.html#msg7048) may mean that I'll have a working Dyson DC15 vacuum again.
