We have quite a few dc24's, however although they all have good suction, the motors make very high pitched noises, without the hepa in. A couple of them don't make the high pitch noise. When you put the bin back on you can't particularly tell there even is this noise. I have read something on this forum about a fan maybe causing this noise??

I recall it is the fan and/or the bearings that cause this to varying degrees.

We find ourselves changing quite a few DC24 motors now, and they are not especially cheap either.

can you change this fan? And would you say if they make this whistling sound (which nobody seems to mention) then the motor is knackered

Due to their size, the DC24's are easy to block and invariably the dirt finds its way into the motor clogging the fan/bearings.

The whine means the motor is struggling and ultimately means it's not too far from

we haven't had that much experience with the 24's. And there really isn't much on the forum about this noise.

Would a bit of wd40 on the bearings make a difference?

Only if you are not selling it with a guarantee. Silicon based oil is better if you must oil something.

You probably can split them, re bearing them, clean the armature and change the carbons but it would take hours, and I wouldn't feel happy unless I've been testing it daily in a machine for a week or so, then you would have to strip the machine again to get the motor out etc.

Put new bearings on a dc07 ydk and cleaned the armature before, that wasn't too tricky but your only one slip/swearword away from having a bad time!
