S.O.S w/ clutch belt DC28
« on: September 06, 2013, 09:52:07 am »
I have a DC28 Animal, bought when it first come out and at the present time I have a $500.00 boat anchor at most.
Ive done numerous searches on and off the net, been to several vacumn shops and still can not finx the clutch belt. Its a gear drive type belt and ALL people and places are telling me I have to replace the entire head.
All I need is the belt...any help out there would be great.

I recall this has cropped up before. I think the outcome was a cleaner head indeed. As a US only model, you need a US member to answer this definitively really.

Here is the parts diagram:

You need a new cleaner head assy even though if you replace cleaner head there is a possibility that something else is wrong such as PCB's. 50/50 that cleaner head alone would solve the problem.

Are the belts available? Does that model have a belt or a drive mechanism? Its hard to tell from those parts shots.

It does have a belt however in the USA, Dyson in most cases do not sell parts, they want to sell components.

So Im VERY unsatisfied with the ALL the information that I have recieved.
NO WHERE on this god forsaken planet can I get just a belt, Im being "Forced" to by a cleaner head assemblyif I want to continue to use my vacumn.
So...as good of a product it "WAS" it crossed over to sporting goods and is now a $500.00 boat anchor.
Thanks for provided a user friendly product. >:(

Sorry, belts are not available.

I'm not buying that belts are not available. Someone would have had them made if there was demand. Or they will be the same as something else.

Poppydon, does the belt have a part number on it?

Is it different to the DC17 one here? http://www.crucialvacuum.com/dyson-dc17-belts-5pk.html - ask the question of Crucial in the US. The guy who owns that is a friend of a friend. They like to pioneer stuff there as we do here.

The DC25 has a toothed belt on too: https://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/DC25-spare-parts.html/DC25-belt-914006-01

Poppy, if you can give me a part number, or even the number of teeth and length, I'll do some digging. It cannot be that a simple toothed belt is not available. I'll bug our guy at Dyson. If I can find them, I'll make them available.

Guy's trust me, you are wasting your time and energy, no belt from any other vacuum would work on this vacuum plus even if you do find a belt that would fit the vacuum, I don't see how is he to replace it without messing many other parts in the process. I have been doing this for over thirty years, I know what I am talking about and trust me I attempted to take the cleaner head apart to no avail.

You keep saying all you have is a boat anchor, not really, as you refuse of fixing it the right way making it a boat anchor. Stop being stubborn and fork over the money and repair it.

Its not completly about the money but Im recently disabled and cash flow is tight. I can easily fix it I built diesel engines
for a living in tractor/ trailers, all I need is a simple belt.
As for the old one, its been stretched, heated and is in BAD shape, cant even read the part number.
From the gear though I know its 7/16 (.437) and has 14 TPI.
Other than this information I just gonna make one

Is this it?

https://www.vacbelts.com/dyson-dc28-belt.htm

It says its part number 15590-01-01 but that throws nothing up over here.

I have asked Dyson UK the question as well.

Despite Poppydon not replying, I asked our chap at Dyson UK. He has referred me to his opposite number at Dyson US. I have emailed him and am waiting on a reply.

Now we are are over the pond, this wont be fast, as I know the "official" position is these are not available. But if we can find them we will.......

Based on the picture of the belt, it does not look anything close however since it is coming from Dyson, it could be. The DC28 belt looks twice as wide visually.
