Vacuum collector cleans up as he makes latest edition of Guinness World Records

James Brown, of Hucknall in Nottingham, also swept into the Guinness Book of Records for having the Largest Collection of Vacuum Cleaners - a whopping 322 models.

So vast is the eccentric 33-year-old’s collection he has opened his own museum.



Mr Brown’s interest began when he was four.

But he had to wait until he was eight before his parents bought him his first real model.

The majority of his quirky collection is not valuable because the machines are old and common, he said.

But certain machines in the collection are more prized because they are genuinely rare, such as some of his Kirby and Scott & Fetzer machines.

Regardless, Mr Brown said he would never sell his collection and he cannot envisage a day when he would stop collecting.

Yet asked if he would celebrate his achievement by plugging in a few models to suck up some dirt, he said: “I won’t be cleaning. I don’t enjoy house work.”

MMM I wonder how Guiness did their research, a Friend of mine has 600 in his collection, I have 200 now but had over 400 but i know many of my vacland friends have 300 plus vacuums

I had a lovely day with James the other month. Never seen so many machines in one place! To say he is dedicated is an understatement! His Kirby collection is pretty awesome too, missing 2 or 3 machines since the scott & feltzer 1st machine!

Does he have a site or something where he arranges visits?

No, it's his repair shop that he runs full time Mon-Sat. I went to his house on a Sunday and he drove me over. Has the front kitted out as a museum and the back is where he works/stores more machines.
