Author Topic: Replacing DC18 coiled cable loom (Read 8829 times)

Hi,

The brush bar on our DC18 recently stopped working after a period of intermittently working. After closer inspection (and noticing the sparks!) I can see that the coiled cable between the motor and the brush bar has worn through exposing the wires inside.

Before ordering the part I wanted to check how difficult a job this is to replace the cable. The end connecting to the brush bar seems easy enough, but I haven't been able to find any information about the other end. Any help would be great thanks! :)

That is a known problem, and quite an involved job on those.

This part:

It involves stripping the wheels and ball off the machine. The wire goes into the motor housing.

I wouldn't recommend it as a DIY job unless you are pretty confident about taking the machine to bits.

Hi

I have this same problem. I've stripped the dyson down and now have the cable you have pictured attached to the main body, which I guess houses the motor. How do I now remove the cable to replace??

Hello there. You have to take the main motor out and the cradle below it to feed the wires through.

Yes, I'm now at point where motor is out and now working on getting cradle out enough to disconnect old cable, which is causing some amount of grief. But getting there slowly. Seems the main cable from switch is stopping cradle from lifting enough. Thinking I might need to disconnect cable and feed a bit of slack through. I'm having fun and hopeful.

Yes you'll find it easier if you disconnect the power lead and remove the internal cable (one that runs down along the frame) as that feeds through into the cradle and.

As Dyson Tech said, quite an involved job!
