Another DC24 head PCB outputting 330V
« on: October 12, 2013, 07:04:55 pm »
Our head stopped working together with a few sparks and electrical burn smell.

I checked the output from the PCB to the motor and oddly I got 330V DC output. I searched this forum and found this had happened before. One occasion the poster never came back to complete the thread.

Another was more interesting https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php?topic=520.0 Although this poster never came back either, they tested two PCB's both outputting in the region of 330V and went one step further and connected the PCB and found the motor ran fine. In the thread they were told their meter must be faulty.

This seems strange to me. Various people all getting iro 330V DC and when used, seemed to work fine?  :boggleeye: I can't easily believe we all had faulty meters all showing the same values for the same PCB, whilst 330V seems out of range for the motor? Weird coincidence? But I am no electrician.

Any ideas what is going on with this 330V area? The motor the PCB feed is rated at 240V DC.  UK model.

The motor is also rated at 220-240v DC, so putting 330v into it can't do it much good. Faulty PCB probably that causes that.

I'll test the next new DC24 cleanerhead I fit with the voltmeter so we have a standard.

The documentation I have tells me only resistance values: 400Ω for the brushbar motor and 725Ω across the cleanerhead terminals (UK/Euro/Aus models).

Well I have just replaced the whole assembly, but all the same, it will be interesting to see what you measure the PCB output as.

We tested one yesterday that we were putting a motor in, and yes 330v was there.  :reading:

Well that is certainly very interesting indeed. I wonder why such a high voltage for a specified 240V motor? Being skeptical, have we stumbled upon a way of getting component failure?

Also looks like a couple of people have been buying new multimeters and PCB's for nothing  :-X  .

I'd like to see what a new PCB reads really.

Apols. I thought it was a new one you tested.
