How do I install the DC07 bin flap ?
« on: March 01, 2011, 02:46:32 pm »
One of the plastic tip hinges broke off on my bin flap.  I can still close it, but would like to replace it. However, I see no way to attach a new one to the existing bin, as the hinge is rigid platic and I see no way to collapse the hinge on the flap, or expand the corresponding part on the bin to allow me to fit it into place. It appears you would either have to replace the entire bin assembly (with attached flap), or break the bin flap hinge trying to force a replacement on.  I do see the flap for sale by itself but I am leery that it just won't work .

Hi Scott. Yes, they are easy to change.

You are correct that there is no "recognized" method, but the area between the flap pegs and the perspex bin hinge hole is not so tight. Either locating peg on the flap will compress just enough with a small blade by the side of it to allow it to be changed.

Some people douse the area with a little boiling water in order to make the area more pliable in order to do this.

Would a couple of detailed photos be of any help?

Sure, that would be great.  Now I have to  get my head around the shipping charge from UK to US as the only replacements I can find are from UK :)

So I asked our top tech, and he has an easier way. He has never broke one yet doing it this way.........

If you need to replace your flap, yours will be already off. To fit the new one, put the canister under your arm and squeeze it so it goes ever so slightly oval. This will open the locators just enough to clip the new flap in as there are two little cut-outs to enable this if you look closely at the canister.

This photo details the technique:

If you want a bin flap from us, we keep both new and recycled ones. You can order from >>this page<<
