1. The new motor had a rubber jacket that was slightly larger than the old one, preventing the 2 halves of the cleanerhead assembly from mating properly. Soon rectified by trimming off the excess rubber with a craft knife.

I believe some are fitted in such a way they need turning around to fit.

2. The drive boss for the brushbar itself was a different shape on the new motor - rectified by swapping the boss from the old motor  (held on by T8 screw) onto the new motor (boss held on by x-head).

That is the usual way, yes. More on that here: DC24: Why some brushrolls don't fit onto new brushroll motors

Anyway, up & running now so well pleased.

A successful replacement, thank you.

The rubber jacket on the motor has a slot that the top casing fits into. This was a different shape to the original in that it had a step in it which better matched the moulding on the top casing. Squeezing them together whilst tightening the T10 screws made for a very good fit and low vibration.

Thanks for the excellent guide.

I have a problem with the brush roller on my DC24. It doesn't turn.

I have 240VAC at the input of the PCB board and have 330VDC on the output.

The motor is rated at 240VDC. So why am I having 330VDC at the output of the PCB aswell as the connections to the motor.

What part is faulty? The PCB for not outputting at 240VDC or should the motor be turning even with 330VDC at the connections.

I don't want to order the wrong part from manchestervacs having to find out its the other one :-)

Cheers guys

If your PCB is outputting 330v DC, the motor will be faulty.

It does sound odd but your readings are correct. The PCB is doing as it should.

Before you order a new motor, have you pressed the reset button?

So it's OK for the PCB to be outputting 330VDC even though the motor is rated for 240VDC.

Ok I'll buy the replacement motor when I get home from work. Thanks!

If he needed to, the PCB would not be giving a reading.  :reading:

Yes.

Ok the motor for the brush roller is now turning. But the brush roller will not fit into the motor which means I cannot close the latch. Any idea if I have been sent the correct motor?

Cheers. I just replaced the cog in the end. Took a bit of persuasion to get it off though!  :-)

Thank you Speedy 23. Was so proud of myself having successfully changed the brush bar motor on my old trusty DC24 then could not understand why the brush bar itself wold not fit in. Read your post and spotted the difference between the old and new parts. Only took minutes to swap them over and now have my beauty little beast back up to full efficiency. I have attached a pic of the two bits, the new on the left has an extra few mm of plastic which stops thr brush bar fitting. I will always refer to this site if anything else goes wrong in future. I need to fit a new motor but cannot see which way round the white and black wires fit on the pcb.
Is it correct in the photo with white nearest the roller or should it be the other way round, so used to plugs and connectors only fitting one way.
