Author Topic: DC41 Right Side Ball Cover Problem (Read 22214 times)

As I was using our DC41 today I bumped the right side and the ball cover fell off. Upon closer examination the plate underneath is cracked and the plastic flange that holds the fastener to secure the cover is also broken. The fastener itself is still attached to the cover (pictures attached). Can someone tell me what parts and/or assembly I need to replace please? Any disassemble and assembly instructions would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

not sure if that is the part, I cant tell without stripping it down but it is exactly as shown in the photos by Carlos7271.
If so it looks like a major stripdown. What is the typical charge for parts and labour for this type of repair?

He said right side, and his photos seem to show the left.

Can you tell me if left or right side and if you are looking at the machine from the front or back?

We have two DC41's in the shop in bits at the moment so I can take a look in the morning.

Looking from the front, it is the left hand side. The side opposite to the ball filter.
The metal disc is attached to the detached ball cover as shown in pic 2. It looks as though it has come away due to the broken housing in pic 1. I found some small pieces of plastic that had broken off as seen in the centre of pic .

I have the same problem as sparky, but I don't find the answer.
It is the Left side as I look at it, oppisite the side with the filter.
Can you tell me what needs to be replaced? and also instructions to do so?

The same thing happened to me this morning. I did some research and you'll require part number DY-923524-01 which is the yoke service assembly.
If the ball shell is damaged you'll need part number DY-920772-02 which is termed the Ball Shell Assy, and possibly the Ball Shell Cap which is part number DY-920703-02
Here's a video for replacing the yoke assembly in a Dyson DC50 (NOT your DC41)

I have not watched the video in its entirety and do not know how close the DC50 is to the DC41. I'm certain I can replace the yoke in my DC41 Animal.
I could not find a video for the replacement of the yoke assy in a DC41. If you're mechanically inclined, don't be intimidated. Take photos. Never use extreme force. Take your time. Use your beautiful mind and you'll pull this off. I know I will. Not sure when I'll get to this, but when complete I'll post photos. Good luck to all.

I've removed the yolk on a DC50 and it's not a job for someone who had NEVER worked on one before, it's very involved!

Appreciate it's not much help, but as there are no stripdown guides for a DC50 or 41 (yet anyway...), I'd proceed with caution, and take lots and lots of pictures as you go! Took me an hour and a half to get the motor out of my DC50, the yolk was the 4th thing to come off. Then another 40 minutes putting it back together. I put some pictures up in my DC50 post if it helps, no idea how similar the machines are

I agree with beko1987. This job should be tackled by a pro or a seasoned/highly-experienced DIYer. Thanks for the reference to your DC50 post as I believe it will help. At 62 I’ve tackled a plethora of mechanical monsters and am hoping it won’t take me much longer than the Garage Wizard to pull this one off. We’ll see. Not sure when as I have two other Dysons. My last "Dyson endeavor" was with my DC16 animal where I had to replace the hall-effect switch/sensor PN TLE4913.

Half the problem with the newer machines is many things need to come off to get one little part out, and everything clipped together, or into or through each other. Half the time taken is by taking reference pictures, labelling up almost identical screws and recording wire locations. Not too tricky on the older ones, but I ended up with 8 lines of screws on the 50 just by taking a few bits off!

As they become older and we see more for repair it should become easier. I hated 24s a few years ago but find them quite easy now, mainly due to having done so many of them!

Might be worth doing a thread on that dc16 sensor. Theres buggar all info about and I bought mine 'broken' with having to do whatever it is you do to that.

Luckily mine just needed a new battery. Theres often questions about them and no one really knows the answer, apart from dead google links or expired photobucket accounts...
