DC24 Brush Bar End Bearing Meltdown
« on: December 29, 2013, 10:22:40 am »
Hi folks.
My DC24 Keeps melting the brush bar and end cap, I'm on my 4th set now and its costing me a fortune.   :angryman:
The bearing gets clogged with hear far to quickly i.e. I clean it out every other time I use the thing and the whole bar gets cleaned of hear as well as the bearing which when unscrewed has a wad of hear wrapped under it stopping it from spinning. Why?

I've used genuine brush bars and end caps but the result is always the same, the bearing jams up with hear and melts the plastic. So could the problem be at the other end. Am I missing a spacer  that somehow allows the brush the float too far out on the end cap and lets the hear in? Or is this a common problem that's easy to modify or fix?

I've bodged it for now with a long Frankenstein neck bolt through the bearing. It wont last long but it'll give me time to hunt down the new parts.

What is the usage of the machine? By which I mean what size house and how many occupants and animals?

Hi
just a 4 bed run of the mill house with ER in doors, 3 kids 16 and up, 3 cats, a guinea pig and me at the bottom of the pile. "I know my place"
Usage, daily downstairs though that's mostly hard floors, twice a week upstairs though the lads bear cave carpet seldom sees the light of day and the eldest daughter locks her room to keep little sis from nicking her makeup, so that carpet gets done by her when she gets around to it. I do the rest, 2 hard and 2 carpet.
The long hair from the girls is the killer I think, that is to say its not cat hair I'm pulling off the bar.

We generally recommend the DC24 for people in a small flat or house, couples without hairy pets, pensioners, etc.

For a big family home, especially with long haired women about, I think you either need a more substantial machine or a trade deal on brushrolls and end caps in bulk.  :chuckle:

Well I suppose I could relegate it to the upstairs only. Even if it lives in my suns bear cave, he might actually clean the darn thing.
So what model do I need ?
