DC07 : is getting very hot
« on: December 31, 2013, 11:18:47 am »
is this a sign that the motor is on its way out?

Machine is 12 years old, 1st motor went in 2007 and was replaced by a local repair shop. Its not been picking up very well lately and the suction seemed greatly reduced so its been on my list to look for a blockage, clean the brush etc but now this morning I noticed that the area around the bottom of the collectuin bin was really hot. Any advice?

Jackie

When was the pre-filter last replaced or properly washed?

Brand new filters added in July July earlier this year. Both of them changed.

And you have checked the pre filter now?

Also, has it been used for plaster dust at all in recent months?

I've not checked the pre-filter yet! I was thinking that I needed a torx screwdriver to access it, but have just worked out that I don't!! So I shall do that now and will make a New Year's resolution to wash this on a monthly basis. I've not used it for plaster dust but it has been used for something similar ( ash from a wood burning stove).  Oh dear I feel another resolution coming on!  Another thing its probably not very happy about is the amount of builders gritty sand that is being tracked into the house. Its like grit so I'm guessing thats not doing the machine any favours.

I use my Dyson to clear up ash from the woodburner too.  :-X

That will be your problem. Bung that filter in the washing machine at 30 degrees after rinsing out, dry on the radiator, and I am sure that will fix it.

Filter info here.

Great thanks! So after a 5 minute struggle to get it out if the yellow case, I've finally got it out and it was disgusting. So will give it a wash and will test it tomorrow once its dry.  Thank you for your help. My husband passed away in September and I'm slowly learning how to do all this type of stuff. I've bought the Angus Black book so next thing on my list to get is a Torx screwdriver! Feels so much better when you can maintain these things yourself. I certainly will continue to buy my spares from Manchester Vacs. Excellent service and help forum!  They say knowledge is power so thank you for empowering me!
