They made two models: The CR01 and the CR02. They no longer make them. They were bigger than standard washing machines, so would not fit in everyone's kitchen.

Unfortunately, they had some known design faults. The digital displays are often faulty and showing error codes; the drum bearings tend to go and they were known to snag clothes where the two opposite rotating drums meet.

The last one we had was sold to a Russian guy who was driving around the country buying them up for parts. We assumed he was taking them out to Russia; the Dyson name does have a certain value in Russia.

We do buy them but usually dismantle them for parts now.

Any of you guys out there that are conversant with the Dyson washing machines, do please make a free account here at the forum and come discuss these machines with us.

We want your experiences of the weak points, the fixes, which racing car they took the bearings from, how you fixed the contra rotating drum gap problem, how you fixed the error codes, etc. All of it.

I guess as a Dyson enthusiast, I would like to know more about how to make one of these machines usable for our family.

Yes, I know it would be easier to go and buy a Candy from Currys for two hundred quid, but the same as those guys spend untold hours rebuilding old 1960's MG's in their freezing cold garages, I want to have a reliable (ish) Dyson washing machine in our house. Just because we are Dyson people and because we can! (Well, I hope we can.)

The Russians are driving around the country, trawling eBay, The Loot and Gumtree buying them up like crazy, so they must know something we don't. One Russian guy drove up from Hertfordshire to our shop in Manchester just to collect a faulty one he won from us on eBay recently. That's like what....... £50 -- £70 in fuel?

This is a British designed machine; I am sure we British can pool our knowledge and help each other revive a few of these! There must be some guys out there that have taken them to pieces and understand them well.

There is a BIG discount on one of our Dyson vacuum cleaners, or cost price on some parts you need for your own Dyson vac to the best knowledgeable contributor on this thread.  :icon_nod:

I saw one here locally a few years ago. He paid a lot of money for it. He said it ripped his clothes and didnt like that it stuck out about five inches in front of his other stuff in the kitchen.

oh they stopped making them because the drum bearing was a formula 1 car wheel bearing apparently and the company that supplied them tripled the supply cost making the machine more expensive to produce than they could sell them for

I have worked for a few large companys in R&d and its amazing how often that happens. the minute the supplier feels that you are making allot ofmoney they double or even quadruple the price , you either pay up or stop making them
either way the consumer is the looser in the end

sounds about right. Really good machine though.
On the lookout for a really cheap one locally with a knackered drum bearing as its the only part dyson can't replace and I fancy a crack at one :-)

Ironically to preserve the now unavailable bearing dyson engineers now upgrade the firmware to stop the drums contrarotating, making it into a normal single drum type machine which means their whole selling point is now turned off on purpose lol

Are these the bearings that were wheel bearings from some sports car I once read?

yeah from a formula 1 car no less allegedly. Apparently the company supplying them tripled the cost making the machines more expensive to make than their retail price which is why they stopped making them, allegedly. (covering my ass here with the 'allegedly's)

I am pretty sure that if you took that bearing to china and asked a factory to make you sum they would have an entire division set up the next day making thousands an hour. I mean they make a fake Ferrari for heavens sakes and it looks the real deal too.

Some years back we used to sell allot of industrial vacuums the big 60l twin and triple motor ones made by a Italian company called Soteco they make different types for many company's who then badge them as their own.

A company in China started to make ( rip OFF) versions of these machines with a few styling changes and sell them at half the cost of the original one , they copied them so well that on the inside mouldings they even said Soteco on the parts.  Every one said they were rubbish at first until they started outlasting the original machines by years so if you asked them to make you a bearing for these machines they would probably make one that would last 15 or 20 years .

I am pretty sure they could too. There used to be a place in Stalybridge, not far from us. You could take almost anything there and show it to the old blokes in store coats with small glasses perched on the end of their nose, and a row of pencils in their top pockets. I was always amazed at the stuff they could match from stock.

As I noted above, we have noticed a trend of Russians buying these machines for spares or repairs. They are also pretty adept at fixing stuff up. They must have identified a bearing that suits them.
