Separating wand?
« on: February 12, 2014, 10:57:31 pm »
Is it possible to remove the alloy part of the wand from the plastic without damaging the plastic?

It is, but it takes two people and some serious wiggling!

SORTED

I took my persuader to the wands.

Hold wand upside down by aluminium and strike bottom of plastic firmly repeatedly. (remove cable clip first)
This worked with no damage on DC04 and DC03 wand but did not work on DC07, it just would not budge and the plastic disintegrated.
You do get rubber skid marks left on the pipe but they wash off, also get lots of little bits of rubber every where.

I managed to fix the De Stijl handle by inserting a plastic sleeve made from a 22m overflow pipe joiner filed down a bit and glued in.

Bit of a sand and a polish and it should look OK.

This is what caused all the trouble, someone cut the end off so the hose would not stay on the wand when extended  :angryman:

Not to bad,

Another clean and polish and it should be good to go.

That looks really really good! It's how I should have repaired my DC01 handle looking at it!

I had a DC07 with a very mangled wand end the other day. Looks like someone bashed the hell out of it and chopped it down to clean it up, then realised their mistake!

Thanks, I'm quite pleased with it.

Have tried it again on a couple of scrap wands, DC04 works but DC07 just shatters, more proof that 04 is stronger.  There is less to hit on 07 than there is on the 04, what might work is a C shaped rubber mallet, not sure where you would find one mind  :))

I agree with Beko, that is a very innovative and almost invisible repair!

Probably sell, although my daughter in law has made it quite clear that she very much likes the De Stijl  :chuckle: could mean I get the DC05 motor-head back.  :duh:
