When I was getting my DC07's yesterday, the chap selling them asked me if I knew what these numbers mean.

I said what numbers? He then showed me. On the back of each DC07 Cyclone, by the output hole is a number moulded into the plastic. We found a 1, 2 and 3.

Anyone know the difference? Going by the machines they came off 1 was early, then 2 had the solid colour base but I imagine the mod to remove the bits of plastic ontop of the cyclones then 3 had the clear base, so the later ones.

Any ideas?

Interesting, I have noticed that if you remove the top of the cyclone assembly there are 3 different lengths of cyclone tubes that I have come across, flush, proud and proud & narrow.

These also have a guide near the top for the emptying rod and shorter screws holding the top/handle on. There isn't much difference between the proud and proud / narrow, holes in cyclones seam a bit narrower but not measured them, but I have had problems with the latter when fitting a different handle on top of the cyclone unit, it seams to restrict the air flow causing the valve in the filter cover to operate intermittently. The fact that I've not had it on any of the other types of 07 cyclone leads me to believe there is a difference.

Ah sterling photography! So the numbers clearly denote the 3 different types of cyclone, very (possibly) interesting!

All we need to find ou now is how to date a machine based on the serial number and job jobbed!

Some sellers claim to "de root " them. I assume this means drilling them out, but would welcome further clarification on derooting.

Hi I can help with the 'De-root' question. At the bottom of every cyclone on the DC07 is a small bit of plastic shaped like a bullet. These over time can get hair wrapped them and then eventually clog. On the old DC07 units all the cones had these roots in. On the next Gen DC07 there was only 3 cyclones that had these roots in. On the latest Type DC07 (Origin) All roots have been removed.

Dyson claim there is no problem with the DC07 cyclones however it seems odd that they have now removed these roots from all their models. The DC08 had the same problem
