Author Topic: Dyson dc33 for £25 (Read 11257 times)

Well I saw a dc33 on ebay advertised as "needs repair". I offered 25 pounds and that accepted it! Got it home and it had been ran for months with no filters in place. The motor did not turn, my dad investigated the
motor while I washed all the other components and he managed to get it to work again. :)

So I put it all back together and it's pretty much like new. The only problem is I don't have any filters for the bloody thing lol. Why are the non genuine hepa filters so expensive for the dc33? Is it because it's a washable hepa? I've got a dc07 pre filter in it as it fits. Should I be using the dc33 one or will it not make a difference? And also will a dc07 hepa fit the dc33? Obviously I'm not going to wash it as the dc07 hepa's aren't washable?

They all cost £70 off 4 separate sellers. Nothing wrong with a single one, just blocked and none needed a part or 2 either.

I'm getting good at bargains :)

Nice bargain there

You'll be ok fitting a DC07 pre motor filter in there as practically the same thing, it's just they've improved the washable part (in my opinion) in the later type filter.

DC07 HEPA filter - can't say I've tried to see if it fits but the motor housing is slightly different to accommodate the newer washable HEPA. If it does fit and the clear lid closes on it ok, don't see any reason why you can't run it like that.

Knowing Dyson though, I'd expect it won't fit so you can't buy the cheaper version to use

Oh cheers for the tip mate, I'm gonna use it as my main vacuum cleaner! It's pretty good to be honest :) il keep the dc07 pre filter in and get a dc33 non genuine hepa for it :)

Because only one person does them and they are always more expensive to start with till he gets his tooling cost back.

Ours are £14.99 FWIW.

I've made a discovery, the dc04 filter pad fits in perfect. I'm not an allergy sufferer so that will do the job fine for me. Maybe you could offer them as a post filter for people who don't want to shell out on the hepa :)

It seems to seal nicely, I used my 33 without a post filter and it was quite loud, needed a good blow out anyway the poor bugger! I tried to register it with dyson today to see if someone had already tried. It has been registered so why the hell would they of ebayer it off for £25 quid! It's like bloody new, the tools would fetch that :)

Just another question, the clutch works but sounds quite noisy, I've stripped it down and oiled it but it still seems to make a funny noise. This is only obvious when you turn the dyson off and the motor is still slowing down. :s

Did you oil the bearings in the ends of the brushbar? If one (or both) of these aren't spinning freely it can cause a louder noise then usual when running.

If you have oiled them, can you see the bearing moving freely if you put the metal rod in and spin it manually?

Motor is on its last legs. Because it has been ran with no filters, all the crap has been sucking through the motor.

When you take the belt off the motor it doesn't make the noise though, I tried another clutch last night and it cured the noise. The clutch I tried had worn belts, so I will put the newer belts off the dodgy clutch in the one that isn't making the rattling noise :)
