Motor problems with DC04 Absolute

Hi

My DC04 Absolute has stopped working and I think it may be a problem with the motor. When its powered on I can hear a humming sound and the brush bar does not turn. There is also a slight smell of burning coming from the motor area.

I have dismantled the vac and burning smell was very strong from the motor. I checked the post motor filter and the underside is covered with a fine black powder. So I am assuming the motor is totally burnt out? On first inspection the clutch seems fine with both belts intact. Would I also need to change the clutch as a precaution?

Your diagnosis sounds spot on and a new motor is in order - clutch won't be necessary if in good conditions and spins the brushes ok.

Would put a new post motor filter in while you're at it though, otherwise it will still smell of burnt out motor once you put the new one in

Easy way to check is to strip the machine down and remove the clutch, then turn it on.

Does the motor work ok? If so then it is the clutch.

However in my experience clutches NEVER jam up so bad that they slow the motor, and if it did the motor would chew through the belt very quickly.

New motor will sort it, and as russ said, a new filter too, and wash the washable one to be sure! When you take the filter out that sits ontop of the motor housing is it covered in black flth underneath? If so then the motor has chewed its carbon brushes up and is
