DC14 Hepa filter: when to replace?
« on: March 31, 2014, 06:41:44 pm »
How long are these good for. Dyson says they are good for the life of the machine; somehow I don't believe that. Could someone could post a pic of a brand new DC14 hepa so I could compare it to what mine looks like?
Thanks

Life of the motor might be a better description. .

Assuming it hasn't been used for plaster dust and fire ash. In which case it will want swapping sooner.

They are cheap enough, so once a year will do no harm. A clogged one will overheat your motor and cause premature burn out.

A good one will be almost white or very lightly sooted. If it's black, swap it. Don't bother trying to wash it.

More on those here.

Thank you MVacs for the explanation. I checked it a few weeks back; it's fairly black. Do the ones you sell include the black rubber gasket on the bottom of the filter?

They don't, that usually comes as a separate part. Most people don't bother with them. If you wanted one, shoot an email after order and we'll bung one in.

I've never put the seal back on any of the machines I've replaced it with!

I find the filter gets choked with carbon dust, killing the airflow and killing the motor when perhaps it has much more life in it (halfway down the brushes kind of thing)

Once a year I would agree with!
