DC25 Filter slipping and motor cutting out
« on: May 02, 2014, 07:29:35 am »
Hi all,

I am fixing a Dyson DC25 All floors.  the reported fault is the filter keeps popping out.  I have confirmed this.  After a while the motor cuts out as well.  I believe this was initially because it the filters needed cleaning, however, since they were cleaned the pre motor filter doesn't seem to fit very well as after a while it pops out.  This probably restricts the air flow again, which is probably what is cutting it out now.

I need to purchase a new motor and filter to ensure that it is working properly.  before I do I wanted to make sure that a new filter would cure the problem with it popping out, has anyone experienced this before and fixed it this way ?

i've seen a second hand Ball for sale with the motor fitted, but I'm not sure if this might exhibit the same same problem if I used the same filter, maybe it was the overheating which has warped the plastic slightly, resulting in it not fitting....though I can't see anything obvious ?

just wanted to try and understand the root cause and determine if it is def a motor and filter that I need ?

Thanks

Is it a genuine post motor filter in there? Some after-market ones are a bit dodgy.

It can sometimes be the ball too, there is sometimes wear where the filter clicks home.

Thanks for reply ....Yes it's a genuine filter, it was only removed for cleaning.

I saw a ball for sale with the motor fitted.  Might be a safe bet to get that and a new filter.  Problem is I don't know how much ware the motor has had.  It was being sold as working.

So basically might ball, motor and filter !!

Its hard to say to be honest without looking at them and comparing the motor case with another.

How did you wash the HEPA? If it was under the tap, it is likely still blocked. We use a pressure washer (gently I might add).
