DC 25 Switch cover refuses to refit.

I cannot get the cover to go back in place! ... fitting the base section first is fine but the top refuses to do so, I removed the plastic switch push covers then it will fit correctly.

I started by inserting the silver then the red units complete with the 2 springs & white pivotal lever then fit the base first then the top whilst depressing the the red unit.

What am i doing wrong?.
