Dyson DC02 Teardown and refurb
« on: May 11, 2014, 11:29:02 pm »
I pulled the DC02 out of the loft earlier in a bid to start refurbishing what I have rather than keep buying!

It's quite faded sadly but top notch otherwise.

The small tools are unused!

Popped the cover off

Removed the very tricky to refit looking seal and hose socket

Suction inlet now

Pedals off

Bottom half now

Motor housing off

Wheels off

Seal off

Refrence shot

Cord reel out

Motor out

Foam and locating assembly removed

Motor seal off

Motor looks ok

Empty now

Wheels off. Couldnt get the yellow housings out though

Switch apart

Moved on to the cyclone

Release valves out. Anyone got any tips on refitting these? The rubber sleeves were halfway down the spring by the time I pulled them out

Cyclone split

Yummy

Hose stripped next. Need a new one of these eventually but this will do for now

And then the floortool

And all done! All washed now too and drying in the airing cupboard!

Need to hunt some filters down, and a new hose end. But thats not urgent

For anyone else stripping one of these down, there is a step-by-step guide here.

We have quite a lot of stuff for those still Beko in case of need. We'll do stuff to you at happy money to keep you off eBay.  :chuckle:

We also have some new turbo heads.  :-X

I only highlighted the old Medic post so surfers also have locations of screws, etc.

Did I mention the DC02 turbo heads are new and boxed?  :evilgrin0002:

Will ping you an email on payday (been told to not spend anything else under pain of death sadly) with what I need. Still have to put it back together yet!

Well, all washed, polished and back together!

Sadly the already biffed on one side release valve copped it fully on the hose handle so taped up for now until I get a replacement!

Will run it round tonight and see how much better it is! Then do nothing until payday when I furnish it with stuff!

Right. Test drive complete and its leaking suction from I think the release valves.

Currently they are fitted as:

Yellow top with the x facing upwards, tucked under the moulding
Spring under there
Rubber grommit sat at the bottom with the spring sat in there

Any ideas? The hose won't hold itself to my hand, and there is an air escaping sound when the lid is closed.

Wondering if its the lack of filters making the airflow too high but reluctant to shell out on filters ATM until I've tried other options!

The relief valves were terrible on these.

There used to be a small kit to repair them, probably now obsolete. Ask Mvacs if they have any. They did about two years ago still.

Well,  amusingly someone is using the first picture on this post to sell their own dc02 somewhere in Northwich,  God knows where that is...

 :o

Obviously they don't have a camera and have done a google picture search,  bit of a liberty though.

Aaah,  up north!

I'm more flattered than upset tbh,  and it means my content is gradually obviously filtering into the top of Google searches.

I've fired off an email in a light hearted way,  if they reply nicely I'll point them to the refurbished after pic so they can change it!

It's Norwich not Northwich.  He definitely has a camera,  or access to one,  as all his other ads are mainly pics of the van he has for his removal service! Unless he's stolen that pic too...
It's a breach of Gumtree T&C's,  so report it to them and they should take it down.

I thought I'd add to this thread than start a fresh one.

Wheels off. Couldnt get the yellow housings out though

If you are really wanting to pop the front wheel holders out, here is what I did.

If the wheel holder is turned to face inboard, then it can be seen that there is a single lug (arrowed) which holds the collar of the wheel holder in place.

Carefully lever this lug just enough (whilst holding the wheel holder away from the lug) so it rests on the very side edge of the wheel holder. When it is stuck on that edge, the wheel holder can be twisted out (rather than directly pulled out) and that's it.

Yes, I did learn that, but on the DC02 clear removing the wheels. I did this, then SNAP PING *duck*

You'll be amazed at the difference after you've washed and ciffed it looking at the underside of that!

Errm, well  :grinn: I suppose the clear is made of a different plastic that has less give in it? Or is it like those shatterproof rulers that flex so far then just go SNAP PING? Maybe heating the plastic up before attempting might work better? I'm just throwing ideas out there as I don't intend to buy a load of Dysons to find out. Actually, knowing how it goes together, I'd have another cunning plan.

I've heard talk of faded DC02s, but as I've only come across one, which isn't, I can only speak for what I see. All I know is that it was here when I moved in and we've been here four years. In all that time it's been sat in the airing cupboard doing nothing. The only thing I can see with the plastic is a very slight yellowing of it. I presume that is like 1980s computer stuff where the flame retardants in the ABS plastic discolour over time.
