DC24 BALL, white nylon/PTFE bearings
« on: May 31, 2014, 10:59:04 am »
Hi there ball lovers,

Are the white nylon/PTFE bearing that allow the ball to rotate available as spares, mine are worn and the ball wobbles about when in use. This believe leads to the post filter coming unseated and the uniut becoming noisey

Cheers

It's the small bearing that commonly wears down and needs replacing - have you had the large one out to see if it needs changing as it probably won't (and why mvacs won't have it on their website I reckon)

Yes, it's always the small one. I think we fitted one big one never.....

If you need a big one, do holler and I'll list them. We can beat e spares on any price on anything.

Ok have stripped the Dc24 down, and got the two bearings out. As was hinted at the large one is OK but a bit rough when rotated. However the small one is well worn and its inside diameter is now 21.40mm at its largest and 21.3mm at is smallest. New one is 19mm.

However before I put it all back together how snug a fit should the bearing be on the small axle of the motor cover, axle is 18.88mm and how snug a fit should the motor cover axle castellated end be in the yoke? It measures 15.18mm and the hole in the yoke is 15.81. These differences will give freeplay.
Is the yoke an available spare at reasonable cost?

The phots show the castellated end in the yoke and the new bearing (beige) under the old one (white)

SO further investigation shows that the small bearing end fits into a sparate bracket (which also holds the small hose). I've taken it off from the main yoke and found it on the other companies web site, dyson pt# 913828-01. Also rear motor bucket pt# 915932-01. Do you stock these?

Photos show the small bracket and the old and new small bearing.

OK it's all back together, and it sucks like a good un and although the slop is much better I'd like to change the small bracket. Looking at it I think this can be done quite easily without a full dismantle.

The small bracket is to be found here: DC24 Yoke Bracket:tiphat:

You can find grit and dirt get stuck in the big bearing causing it to feel seized.

Like you, dirt equals friction and I like to replace them both as well. Even though the bigger one usually looks OK. Nylon wears....
