Motor Bench test Set up
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:24:18 pm »
Would anyone disclose their set up for this as for the DC07 type motors I tried using clamps and the centrifugal force just detached if from the clams and it went flying across the room.

Thinking about designing some sort of jig / fixture.  What does everyone else use ?

Thanks
Brett

I hold them, with the black housing seal attached, outside on the patio.

I don't like the sound of that after launching one across the room.

I do make sure I'm holding it tightly and in such a way that my fingers dont get caught. If I did anymore of them I'd but a vice big enough to clamp the motor body in the test them, but I've held maybe 2 in my hand to test them, one was the one I rebuilt, one was slightly sparky but calmed down after a tickle with a comm stick!

A jig/vice type set up was always on the "to do" list, just never happened.

I also wanted to make a flex continuity tester that was a faster way of testing flexes in bulk than a multimeter (single socket on a surface backbox, 9v battery powered LED light drilled in, wired in such a way that you plug the flex in and the LED lights if there is continuity when the terminals on the other end are bridged).

Here's my rig - the plastic brush holder gets clamped in a vice and works perfectly!

Oooh I have a vice small enough to do that, great idea!

I have an old dc01 cable that I use to troubleshoot the cable on dead machines, quickly rules it out! Don't get that many dead dead ones though
