Poor suction DC07
« on: September 10, 2014, 08:46:03 pm »
I have the Dyson animal - works great so I know how good a Dyson can be! I also have an older Dyson DC07 which has never worked well.  I use it around office but it is so pathetic I thought I would throw it out.  Before I do that I thought I would try this forum for troubleshooting advice.

If I remove the cannister the suction is great.  If I use accessory wand - suction is great.  Problem is at the bottom of vacuum suction is very weak.  I just chase things around the floor and it pushes them away rathering than vacuuming them up!

To test it - While vacuum was running I put it down and turned it over so I could feel suction through the soleplate.  The hole at the bottom does not appear to be blocked but the suction is just blah.  It has suction but very poor.

Could you tell me what to check if the top and middle is good but the bottom suction is not?  All the filters have been cleaned BTW.   Hoses appear to be good and free of holes or cuts. Motor is not making any strange noises either.

The small hose under the vacuum might be lose from one end.
Which colour combination is your machine?
Are the brushes  spinning round?
Has the small hose got no tears either? Checked it fully?
With the DC07, check the end of the small hose where there is a plastic cuff on the end, the opposite end of where the coloured brush housing holds it

thank you for replying.  It is the grey model with turquoise trim & canister.

I checked the small hose & it is attached to the base plate fine.  The other end seems loose and has a slight gap. The plastic at the end seems to be too slack also. I have tried to reattach the small hose but having trouble threading it in.  It does not want to seem to "catch".  Have any tricks for this?
FYI - I am going to order a new hose

Cool, so there is the problem
And to re attach the small hose underneath, I would try one of the two tricks:
1) put half of the hose end on a 45 degree angle, and push the rest in so it joins.
Or, take the entire hose off by twisting it off the baseplate, try to attach the end with the plastic cuff first, then once it joins, it is easy to twist the hose onto the baseplate

What Parwaz said, also check the carriage realease valve for blockages, press the two tabs and pull it upwards. Will also enable you to see if the bottom hose is blocked from the top, and that its seated correctly.

So I read your suggestions and bought a new internal hose (the small one at the bottom) and my Dyson is working great.  The old one looked ok to me but was kind of yellow so maybe it had hole in it I could not see.  The new hose fixed the problem.  To be honest the vaccum has never run right so I am guessing I had a hose issue from the start.

My only problem now - and it is not a problem actually. Vacuum suction is good and now makes a whistling sound!  I will live with this just very happy to have it working properly.

Thank you all for your tips and advice.  I have bookmarked this site in favs

The whistling sound could just be the airflow whipping round like its supposed to, if the inner cyclone handle assy was particularly minging it makes a noticeable difference!
