Just acquired a DC19, that has a problem. It seams to over heat and cut out after about 5 minutes, it then cuts back in after a few minutes runs for about 60 seconds then cuts out again. The air coming out seams much hotter than any other Dyson I have ever come across and dose it with or without filters. I have stripped it down but cant find anything obvious and the motor seams in very good condition, any Ideas?

Does this happen with the hose attached - something stuck in there?

With or without the hose, with or without the cyclone, it dose the same.

Try changing the thermal cut out. If not, the motor is duff.

That's what I was thinking myself, are the cut outs the same as fitted to 04 and 07, got loads of those.

OK think I've sorted it. Tried a different cut out but it did the same, but then I noticed that if I banged the machine when it went of it would come back on and vice versa. So this to me sounded like an electrical connection that was heating up and opening. I removed the brushes gave them a wipe and slightly bent the spade connectors they fit on to and hay presto its fine. hav run it for 15 mintues with no problem, will give the stairs a good going over with it to make sure.

Cutting in and out like that is usually an indication of a break in the mains cable, either near to the plug or near to the chassis entry point (i.e. where the cable is stressed the most).
If you wiggle the cable about then it may display the same symptoms.

No, I did think of that and tried another cable but it did the same. Just vacuumed stairs, hall, Lounge and kitchen with no problems (love the low floor tool that goes under everything, but as usual hate the fact that the tools are yet again a different type to other Dysons and none of the ones I have fit

)
