DC25 replacement
« on: October 12, 2014, 11:12:56 am »
Hi all. I have a DC25 animal that has lasted for over 5 years, vacuuming a 4 bedroom house with a long haired dog and many DIY and building projects. The arrival of a toddler has made us realise that it just is not performing as well as it used to, so we are looking for a replacement.

We have narrowed to Animal versions of either a DC41 or another DC25. Whilst the DC41 is the newer model with newer technology, the DC25 is specified more powerful and is also cheaper.

I would really appreciate some advice.

Thankyou

Are you buying new or refurb? The DC25 is not a current model.
If when new it was performing satisfactorily, then all you need to do maybe is recondition it: new filters, brushroll, pressure wash the cyclone. Should then have suction 'as new'.
Is the original brushroll motor still working after 5 years? If so, it's done well.

Interesting thanks.

This is the machine I was considering buying new:
http://www.dyson.co.uk/vacuum-cleaners/upright/dc25/dc25-animal.aspx

It looks like the same machine I have now.

The air watts are twice as much as the DC41 MK 2, which is why I am confused.

For a few nights work you could strip and refurbish it! There's a sticky at the top of the forum.

Tbh with a young child I'd get a refurbished DC04/07. Will be more reliable. The first time you vaccum up some potato and have to clean the brushroll and housing you'll know why! (i have a 2 1/2 year old!)

Yes, it's listed on the Dyson UK shop (I assume you are in the UK?) but not on the 'models' pages: only the DC40, 41 and 50 are shown as current upright models. So I presume they're clearing the last of the DC25 stock-the new equivalent is the medium size DC40.

Thankyou

Yes I did post to the other forum as well, as it seemed more appropriate; don't know how to close this one ?

Do you know if the DC41 is a better machine than the DC25?
How does the DC41 (DC41i) compare to the DC41 MK2 ?

DC04/07 ???
Surely they are very old technology now and not as efficient as today's newer models ?

The only major technical innovation in recent years was the introduction of the ball technology on the DC15: that supposedly reduces weight and improves manouevrability. It has nothing to do with suction power or efficiency.
The cyclone design has not greatly changed from the DC07/14: though James Dyson would probably suggest that progressive small modifications have improved efficiency.
I have tried a DC25, and for sheer suction power I'd say that my refurbed DC07 is superior (though not necessarily more 'efficient').

Not in my opinion.

How does the DC41 (DC41i) compare to the DC41 MK2 ?

Maybe they addressed some of the design faults and build quality issues.  :coffee:

If you are only choosing between a DC25 and a DC41, get a DC25. But as noted, your old one probably only wants a service and some TLC.

Hi, if you want a really powerful dyson, tye the new dc41 animal mk2 with the  blue brushbar. It is 700w but trust me, it cleans a million times better than the DC25. I want to buy one, but I know somebody with one.
The brushbar spins 75% faster and it has much better airflow. It will remove lots of dirt
We bought a DC25 animal from Currys in 2011 and thought it was unbeatable, now the dc41 is next on the list
Dyson are doing a deal where you trade in your old vacuum, and have £100 off and choose 3 free extra tools!

By the way the dc41 mk2 had more suction, Dyson told me they are having website issues because. I asked why it has 100 aw, but it has much more suction than a dc25

Thankyou parwaz7862

I was led to believe that the DC41 mk2 was identical to the DC41 mk1 (DC41i), except that it had a motor that complied with EU regulations due in 2017
- I.e. It is only 700W & 100AW

if indeed they have improved its ability to clean floors, compensating for the reduction in AW, then surely the one to buy is the DC41i ?

So I now have conflicting advice:
- buy or service the DC25
- buy a DC41(1 or 2) as it's amazing !!!!

Can anyone else comment ?

PS

while writing the last post, the wife just informed me that the DC25 brush bar has stopped working while vacuuming the living room
- the pressure for a decision is on

If I tell her I am waiting for further help from dyson fanatics on a forum, she is likely to raise her eyebrows a very long way ........ and just go and buy something new

What do I do?
Votes please

Aah, maybe a dead brushroll motor and/or PCB is the justification you need for a bit of man maths and a new dyson!

Just don't expect it to be reliable, or not need a huge load of new parts before its 4th birthday! Register the guarantee the day you get it!
