Hi is it a good idea to wash the multi cyclones? Why don't Dyson recommend this?

They don't recommend it because people wouldn't dry them properly and the resultant water going through to the motor would blow it up. Also, to wash a cyclone properly is beyond many people as it must be split down which isn't always straightforward.

Under normal use, you probably don't need to.

I can't wait for these to fall to <£20 in a few years so I can tear one down and see how bad the smaller but flexible cyclone tips really are. Sadly I imagine they bonded the hell out of it all so it wouldnt split down like a dc08 does...

Have you tried compressed air? Airbed pump, blower on a vac or a full on compressor if you're swanky, in all the holes etc.

Washed your pre motor filter recently? (Are thye washable on these?)

Hi yes the filters are washable. Sadly I have allergies so blowing the dust out is a no no for me :-(

Ah fair enough, if you have allergies then you don't want to take the cyclone apart at all, which you would have to in order to wash it.

Dyson don't mention that in their 'look how easy our machines are to empty' marketing do they?

What you want is a nice HEPA bag you remove, pop a cover on the hole and bin!

Unless your near Thame, Oxfordshire then good luck! If you are then bring it over and I'll blow it out for you!
