So, a DC07 De Stijl then?
« on: October 21, 2014, 09:51:36 pm »
The Dyson aficionados among us will know that a DC07 De Stijl doesn't exist. Well, it didn't........

For those who don't know what "De Stijl" is, it is Dutch for "The Style". You can read more about the concept of neoplasticism on Wikipedia >here<. However, in simple terms, in relation to Dyson, it means a vacuum cleaner that is purple, red and yellow.

Dyson made some special edition De Stijl models in the nineties, good ones are quite rare today. We have a couple of popular topics about ones we have rebuilt to keep.

The DC01 one we did last year is here: DC01 De Stijl Rebuild.

We recently did a DC04 one: DC04 De Stijl Rebuild.

Dyson never made a DC07 De Stijl, so for fun, we decided we would. Forum members planted the idea:

I'd like to try and have a go at building a Dc07 de Stijl. Using the red purple and yellow theme :)

I hadn't realised that the DC04 cleaner head also fitted the DC07. So with that in mind, how about building the one that Dyson forgot-a DC07 De Stijl?
With that one you're already half way there...

It has been taking shape in between other work for a few weeks. I was abroad the last week or so, so didn't see it nearing completion. Our tech keeps delving in the parts bins and swapping and changing stuff on it so the colours look more uniform and correct. He is tweaking it in between other work, but it is now nearly done. When I left today, he was adapting a purple DC03 flex with a yellow plug to fit it.  :icon_nod:

Today, there was three of us staring at it saying stuff like, "What if we use a red switch and a yellow wand release catch?" and then offering different coloured bits up to it to see if they worked.

Dyson never made a yellow, purple or red chassis for the DC07 (lavender doesn't cut it), so the chassis is silver. But everything else will be red, purple or yellow as neoplasticism dictates. If not usually available, coloured parts are adapted from other machines to create this one-off machine.

This time, simply because I wasn't about with the camera at the right times, there isn't a photographic record of the build as with the DC01 and DC04 linked up thread. But as with the Multi-coloured DC07 we recently built, this one will be for sale.

As soon as its done I will post some photos.

Meanwhile, your comments and thoughts are welcome.

Very nice idea! I imagine it would also be cool to make a DC05 de stijl out of a purple and lime absolute model, a standard model and a red one :)

Apart from the valve inspection cover, I'd have given that 100%. At least from that angle.
Is that one of the parts awaited? Does the DC04 one fit the DC07?
With the cyclone on, very little of the chassis is visible anyway.

I don't think the DC04 one fits actually, and they don't do a red one on a 7. But I'll check that.

We are only waiting on a bin flap catch actually now, and they arrive next week. It only wants a final polish other than that.

Tool wise, I went with a red brush and crevice and a purple stair (had no red stair tools left).

Very nice! I was amazed when I scrolled down to see that pic, well done XD
As for the grey parts, believe it or not, but the DC04 side valve pipes do fit on a DC07, and DC07 valve pipes also fit DC04's.
As for the switch housing and body, the DC07 animals have those parts in grey, but I think that might mess up the purple colour combination by making the main body lavender instead of a normal purple :/

I have a DC04 De Stijl box and the picture shows the same handle yours has, all red. Except my DC04 De Stijl has a purple grip down the front. Anyone ever noticed the 2 different handles?

As an addition to this topic, this machine hasn't caught anyone's eye as yet on our shop floor [it takes someone with an eye for the funky]. We still have it.

Here it is nestling at the back of a display.

If you want it, you are free to >>contact us<<.

The post above was 2014. It is long gone.

Also could you send me a list of all the coloured parts and where you got them from as I want to make myself a De Stijl, style dyson Thanks

The parts were all from stock. I am not inclined to spend the time to compile a list with so many photos above. It's a question of try it and see. As we did here.

Ok didn't see the date on the post, All the parts were from stock? were all of these all for a dc07 because I know some parts can interchange like the dc04 head (this is the last question about parts)
