HELP! How to DC20 attachment tools with DC08 wand?
« on: September 14, 2014, 07:21:00 am »
Hi all,

Could someone please tell me which adapter would I need in order to use DC20 floor tools with my older Dyson DC08 (non-telescopic)?

Cheers.

Also, does the DC20 flat-out tool with the universal adapter fit OK on the DC08 wand?

I have a DC08 vacuum cleaner with missing attachments and I was working out a way to use the attachments from my other DC20.

Cheers.

With cylinder machines, its very hard to tell without seeing them. They made a point of altering fittings and collars to prevent people using one with another - forcing them to buy new heads. Fittings sometimes vary between models. The DC20 is essentially a DC19, and they had two different types of fittings depending if a telescope wrap or not. Cylinders are always problematic this way.

If you can post a picture of what you want to use with what, I might be able to suggest further.

Hi,
I have attached a photo of the two heads. As you can see the DC08 head on the left is larger (~38mm) and the DC20 (telescopic) head on the right is smaller (only ~34mm) in outside diameter. Is there an adapter to covert 34mm to 38mm for the DC08 model?

Cheers.

I am not aware of an adaptor that would do that.

If anyone else knows different, do holler.

How come Dyson claims that this flat out tool is suitable for ALL Dyson vacuums except cordless model?

Good point!

On Thursday [when we are next open] I will check the three adaptors that come with the flexi crevice tool. I know your two types, I will see if one converts them.

Dyson cylinders are an odd thing by design. We can sometimes build a machine thinking we have a head that will fit that wand. When we try it, it doesn't.  :angryman:

I have a big box of various adaptors we have accrued, occasionally we get lucky and find one that makes X tool fit Y wand. There isnt a definitive guide anywhere that says for example, "DC08 telescopic wrap models can use DC20 flat out tool with X adaptor". Dyson do not release that information. People on sites like this work it out over time.

Cylinders are not big sellers in the UK, so nobody ever really had to learn that stuff. Anyone here in the job will know everything about every tool that was ever fitted to an upright. But cylinders were so random, and had so many variants (example being the DC20 was a DC19 made for a Currys promotion I think), telescope wrap models sometimes use different heads and tools, and foreign market models had even more variants, nobody I ever met wrapped their head around what fits what. Some DC11 tools fit certain models of DC08 for example.

Selling tools online is a nightmare for cylinders. About 30% of people want to return them as they don't fit. Same with turbo heads and flat out tools. Dyson say their flat out tools fit XYZ models, and they don't! If Dyson dont even know, there is no hope.

I'll look on Thursday and see if I can crack this one.

I got a random lot of cylinder tools and adapters recently from SWMBO's work (they use cyclinder dysons in a 40 bed care home, cant wait for them to die and get my hands on them...) I had no clue at all what went where!

Good luck! Gaffa tape might make it work...

 :angryman:

Cylinders drive me up the wall.  I hate it when I get them in a job lot, still end up doing them though  :grinn:

I wish someone would make patten tools for them though or an adaptor so upright patten tools would fit.
