Dyson DA-001
« on: November 08, 2014, 10:49:09 pm »
This cropped up 8 miles away on Ebay last week, and I won it thursday! Was listed as a DC01, but looking at the stickers, and the font, and people having told me what it meant, I knew it wasn't a DC01..

There's no section on this fine forum for this pioneering machine, and no real info on the net, but...

Before the DC01, before Dyson built Malmsbury, before phone area codes fully changed to 5 digits...

I'd picked up a DC07 to refurb and sell too, so it fitted on the back seat for the way home

and my car ticked over to 269,000 miles on the way home!

It was listed as spares/repair as it was missing its inner cyclone

so I popped into the shed and borrowed one from my spares dc01 destijl

It even has the original retro plug!

original wand

Original short hose

It's not all good news though, the cable had been run over in a few places. Luckily it;s not gone through the inner wires, so I'll clean the cable, and re-tape it. Can't loose the original plug!

RAn it round downstairs, and whilst alot of this would have come from our door mat, which hates being vacuumed normally, I'm impressed! Suction is pants, and whilst DC01's never set the world on fire, a good refurb would help it alot!

No tool adapter on this model!

I found some dyson tools with the old logo too, think I have a faded upholstry brush somewhere too, but didnt fancy tearing the shed apart to find it!

Different brushroll ends too, the brushroll isn't in too bad condition though

The belt has seen better days though

However, it still grooms pretty well!

Refurb coming soon! Mods, feel free to move if it's in the wrong section, what with it NOT being a DC01... :underchair:

If the soleplate is mint, I'll have that off you as is. We have a waiting list for those soleplates. PM me if you want out of it. Or even if you just want to break it and sell me the soleplate.

I tweaked the room name just for you.  :tiphat:

I need to do some other room name tweaking/adding when I get chance anyway.

Aah, I don't think I'll be breaking this I'm afraid, it just seems to complete! If upon stripping it down I find something wrong I'll reconsider, but for now, she stays complete!

Nice room tweak too!

I changed the belt earlier, to see if it made a difference

and after stripping the DC07 Origin I picked up before the DA, I gave it a test...

Something I've noticed with it though, the head doesnt pivot too well, as evident on the video it holds itself off the floor if one starts moving it up and down. The floor head doesnt seem to 'lock' upright either, but I'm not sure if it should or not, will find out when I strip her down!

I saw these on ebay for a reasonable price! Won't open them, they can stay sealed and with the machine! It has a lovely q-know-who belt on it now!

Original DA-001 belts! Shame about the sticker on the back, have a few ideas to get that off without tearing the packaging!

Just need a nice set of original logo filters now!

In other news, the hose is washed too, as I put a load in yesterday, so grabbed the da-001 hose too so I dont have to do it on its own!

I too have had problems with my DA001 head getting stuck off the floor. The head is supposed to lock upright. There's a little metal pin/spring type catch you may have noticed it when turned upside down to change the belt.

My cleaner head was lovely and loose until I fiddled about with it and now suspect the main seal between the body and cleaner head has been disturbed. To help I used a little veggie oil to help movement.

I may and stress 'may' be able to help with filters.

Leave it with me...

Cheers Matthew, as discussed on Fb, I don't actually need the filters, got loads of those, merely the packaging which you want to keep, so don't worry, but post a PIC up so I know what to look for!

Won't use veg oil to fix it, I only use that for frying food and running my car!

I'll have a look when I strip mine down and see if I can spot where its sticking and post my findings!

You mean these ones?

We have them, but they are expensive. I know you like stuff for sixpence.  :))

No, that's the new style logo! I'm after a pack with the old logo on, must be a pack out there somewhere!

And yes, I am tight, and I'm not even northern (Peterborough)

Someone gave me loads of s class dc01 filters, stocked up for a while, especially given the amount of use my dc01s get!
