Dyson DA-001 - Stripdown and Refurb
« on: November 19, 2014, 09:01:33 pm »
Did this last week. HAve to say the plastics seemed more robust than the DC01!

When I got it, it was a bit meh

Was a bit better with a new belt

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxL3AYO5mxY&list=UUv0y2E43HyJMX85p-Wxro0Q

Started with the wand

Release clip off

Spring out

Wand top is nicely unbroken

The collar on the end of the wand doesnt come off. I wasnt going to try either!

The two tools I found in the shed. Sadly not the original black ones though, but look the part and have a matching logo

Onto the main cleaner now

Nice genuine filter

Filter housing

Cyclone seal off

Wiring cover

Yep, did that

Cord clamps

Someone's been here before...

Cable out of the way

I've never known how to get the switch out of a DC01, wasnt about to try here!

Eva decided she wanted to fix her dyson...

Spine cord out of the top

Side filter housing out (was choked when I bought it, binned it there and then)

Upside down now

The only bit of damage on the soleplate

Not too grubby

Soleplate seal out

Brushroll stripped down

End caps

Brushroll is a bit soft, but in good order and not too worn

Bumper off

Brushroll housing off

The clip that keeps it upright. It never worked very well, a slight bend has helped it alot!

A date stamp

Never seen this style of circlip before

One wheel has a bit of damage though sadly

Motor housing now

Which is held together with phillips screws. Took a few minutes with the t25 before getting a torch to figure that out...

Not black with carbon which is nice to see

Bottom flaps out

Wiring next

Dyson used to make small components too!

Motor out

Sorry for the flash flare

Clean looking armature

All but one screw holding the motor housing onto the airflow duct were torx, one was phillips...

Not too dirty

Little valve so the suction has somewhere to go when the wands in

Getting there

More seals out

Cyclone now

I got excited about these stickers until I remembered the cone came from a DeStijl...

Managed to break one of the release valves too sadly

Split

Everything was then washed, and given a first stage polish with cif, then Farcela Paint Renovator to put some shine back on

And an exploded diagram

Spine cable (which was very difficult as the hole is the same size as the cable, rather than having a bigger hole in the dc01) and seals back on

Noticed this repair on the bottom seal, I elected to leave it alone!

Motor back in

Seals back in the motor housing

Wheels back on

Some wheel caps kindly donated by a Dyson collector! (cheers George!)

Cleaner head back on

Bumper back on

Grabbed the brushroll bits

back in

Baseplate was in very good condition underneath the muck

New pre motor filter

And new post motor filter

Cyclone back together now

Wiring back in

Release valves in, pinched one from my spares destijl, its made of a different type of plastic, different colour too!

Cleaned the plug up too

and refitted the hose and wand

And she's done! Needs a final polish, and the top cyclone handle sticker rubbed off a bit during washing, but I have a plan for that...

Next to a DC14 I'm selling

Been using it a bit since, it does glue itself to the carpet now, performs VERY well. Am very pleased to have added it to the collection!

Thanks! I used it all last week and tbh it has better suction than my DC01 De Stijl, which is nice. I ran the polisher over it last night and tbh it made no difference so I emptied the cyclone, cleaned it up and put it back to the fresh look and it's now sat in the Loft as I needed to make room for other projects!

Did buy something for it yesterday though, will update when that turns up...
