hi all around 4 months ago i was tidying my workshop bench after having a messy day and i had an old dc24 ydk motor on the bench i also had a dc03 motor sitting there from a very battle scared dc03 as they were sitting side by side they looked very similar in size, bing eurkia moment, lets try it for size so i slid the dc24 rubber over the dc03 motor and tried it for rough fit into the dc24 motor bucket well it fits apart from the spindle poking into the hepa filter housing, so out comes the hacksaw and off with the spindle, next step the tails on the dc03 motor are female so i cut off the male tails from the old dc24 motor striped the wires dug out soldering iron and shrink tubing all sorted put it all back into the motor bucket and fitted it into a test dc24 duct assembly run for 1hr to bench test, wow it worked so i stole the wifes dc24 and swapped the motor in hers for this dc03 motor we are now 4 months down the line and it is still running great with good suction. so it looks like there could be a use for all those dc03s that people hate so much!!!
has anyone spotted this or even tried it?
before everyone starts saying that its wrong to be trying to bodge fit other motors into a dyson most that are in the trade would of or still are puting a dc04 motor into either a dc07 or dc14 or cut the spindle off of a dc07 motor and fitted it into a dc08 or dc19 etc or even cut the spindle off of a dc04 amtek motor and fitted it into a henry.
i have done it as more of an test to see weather it could be done and thought that i would share my findings with all on here so if you have a spare 30mins and the parts to try it then have a go and let me know your findings or thoughts.
