DC59 filter not working
« on: December 28, 2014, 06:15:43 pm »
I upgraded an older handheld with Dyson this month. The new one, the DC59, worked about 20 minutes then a problem. If I try to use it, it starts for less than a second then stops. I found if I take out the filter, then works continuously. So I cleaned the filter with cold water as recommended and let it thoroughly dry, but still the same. Called tech support yesterday and they kept trying to say I had damaged it by cleaning it and I kept telling them that this problem started before the filter had ever been removed. In any case, they are sending another filter but I am wondering if this is going to be a continuing problem. I have a 30 day return possibility, so would like to decide before long. Can anyone let me know if this is unusual? Or if this is likely to be a continuing problem?

Thanks,
— Richard

The hand helds seem to be generally problematical in my view.

It does sound like a blocked filter to me. Rinsing them as they advise isn't enough really. I think they need detergent and hot water. Dyson disagree.  :grinn:

I don't really see how its possible to damage a washable filter by washing it in cold water. That sounds like a try on to me.

What is the warranty on those, two years?

The tech support told me that the filters have no warranty all, are excluded from warranty, that it would cost $18 plus shipping to replace it, and this after using it for 20 minutes.
When I bought it they said they had a return policy of 30 days, so maybe I should send it back.

Wash it in nothing but hot water. Keep wringing it out until no more shit comes out of it. It will take a while.

Sadly, all Dyson handhelds are sheeeiiiittee!!!

I've wanted a hand held for ages but the shear amount that are on ebay as spares or repair have put me off getting one.  There seams to be an inherent problem with the battery or charger and a lot seam to end up cutting out after a few seconds of use.

Yes, I think I will return this one if I can (didn't keep all the box innards). Tried cleaning the filter with hot water and detergent. Got a lot of dirt out but no fix. Then I called again, and they suggested taking off the trash receptacle and cleaning it, which I did, but still not working.
