DC08 floor tool catch replacement.
« on: January 15, 2015, 02:02:23 pm »
Got a DC08 with a broken catch on the floor tool? It can be replaced  I think the following procedure would also work on the DC05 Motorhead.

First thing is to wiggle a screwdriver into the small gap as shown.

Next carefully wiggle/twist/pry until the part of the catch cover nearest the tube popes out.

Turn the pipe over and do the same on that side.

Now free the centre of the cover from the retainers as shown.

It's then a simple job of removing the catch and spring, hold the spring as you remove the catch as it's likly to fly.

Refitting is just a reversal of above, make sure spring sits in the little dimple, it's a bit fiddly to get the cover back on but you will have saved yourself a fortune compared to buying a complete head unit, you just need to get hold of a replacement catch.  I've not seen any listed for DC08 but there are some on ebay for the DC05 motorhead but I'm not 100% sure they are the same, I have ordered one to see, other than that Mvacs might be able to help.  If its a turbo head you have you can probably find one that no longer spins and strip that.
