DC26 disassembly
« on: January 24, 2015, 02:46:53 pm »
Power switch on my DC26 no longer stays on.  I have a replacement switch but can't for the life of me work out how to get at it.  Can anyone offer some guidance on this repair at all?
Thanks

First, are you sure the switch is the problem, people often say that when the filters are blocked and the problem is really just motor overheating.
Check and clean your filters first.
After that sorry, never worked on one.

Thanks but I'm certain it is the switch.  The switch just won't latch in the ON position.  The vacuum works if I hold the switch down.

I've known switches die frequently.  I'd certainly start with that! Can't help on how to get to it though I'm afraid

As luck would have it,  I now own a dc26 (for free).  May be a few days,  but if you have had no luck I'll try and work it out for you and let you know!

Thanks for the responses guys - I've been away from home for a while so haven't had a chance to get any pics of the thing.
beko1987 - if you do have any luck with it I'd be eternally grateful!

Right, had my 26 apart earlier, and whilst I'm going to wait until its finished to do the full thead, I did work out how to get the switches out

It is a t :censored: t though...

Take the floor tool parking slot out

With a small flatblade screwdriver, lever the power switch out from the front corner, by the catch. One the fronts popped out, pop the back. Be careful though, the plastic is very fragile (mine has a hairline crack in it)

You cant get to it yet though...

Same on the cord rewind pedal side

Undo the 2 torx screws, then wrestle the housing off. I found levering it over the floor tool parking slot location, then popping it up at the bottom corners then pulling it forward and out did it, but eventually

Is just a standard switch from many many other machines!

Hope this helps!

You, sir, are an absolute legend!  Thanks very much.

I shall take my most delicate screwdrivers and largest hammers to the thing tomorrow.  Cheers!

Excellent, glad to hear it!

Was your switch housing a compelte pain to get off as well, or was I doing something wrong?

The power switch was a real pain to get off but the housing itself came away pretty easily.  I think I just squeezed the sides together and pulled it vertically upwards and away.
