Got an email from Dyson yesterday titled, "New technology from Dyson coming soon." Evidently, something is on the horizon with Dyson. Curious if anyone out there knows what it might be.

Dyson Eye looks pretty cool. I was kind of hoping, and I'll probably get flogged for this, that they were coming out with a new line of upright vacuum cleaners. Wife and I just bought a new DC65 Animal for the home, and I have to tell you, it's the flimsiest piece of plastic I've ever pushed around the house. It wobbles; it bends; it creaks; it won't stay upright; the hose is a pain to use; and the canister feels like a plastic soda bottle. We also have an old DC07, and it's rock solid! The build quality between the two is night and day. Now on the plus side, the DC65 does do a fabulous job of cleaning the carpet and our hardwood floors, but every time I get it out to use, I feel like I'm going to break something on it. We'll see how things go with it in the next few weeks. The store we bought it from has a very generous 90-day return policy, so we're going to be patient with it and give it a fair shot at replacing our DC07.

For the Brits, the DC65 is what we know as the DC41.

Lambert, I agree with you about the build quality of newer machines compared to older ones.

A chap came in our shop recently with a DC07 pulled out of his loft that didn't work, and a new DC50, which also didn't work properly. He wanted advice as he wanted a machine that actually worked as he remembers his DC07 once did, and he was deeply unimpressed with his new DC50 for the reasons you describe with your DC65.

He ended up giving us the DC50 in exchange for us bringing his DC07 back to life and giving it the full cosmetic treatment as well. He is now a very happy chap with his refurbished DC07 and glad to see the back of his DC50.

Sell them on eBay duly fettled and in good working order, but without warranty. I'd prefer not to have to put warranty on the newer balls for six or twelve months as we would normally. Better to put them in auction, take whatever they bring and not have to stand on them.

The DC41's (DC65's) we sold up to now haven't been the most durable either. We can do without the hassle of them. We can sell older models and hardly ever see them again. Not so with the new stuff.

Don't blame you, the newer Dysons are shocking compared to the older ones. I'm just fed up with ebay buyers that suddenly don't want to pay once they win

I've got about as far as I want to with modern Dysons with the DC25. The extra manouvreability and lightness seem an acceptable trade-off for the less solid construction. And suction is pretty good too-until the brushroll motor inevitably dies on me at some point. At which point I'll probably just fire up the trusty DC07...

It's like Stuart said in a few months ago. It's only a matter of time when Joe public susses that everything after the DC14 was pretty crap (with the possible exception of the DC25, if you get a good one) and the refurb market will be gone.
I seem to have had loads of DC33's recently with blown motors which I find hard to understand as they are so new and basically a sooped up DC14 with a DC27 cyclone (slightly different motor I know).
I've a DC27 that I managed to crack the footplate on when refitting it (god knows how!) and that will be the last 27 I'll ever refurb - they are awful to work on and so tempremental with the change over assembly. I've had a few 24's with the same snag.
Like I said about DC25's - if you get a good one, they're ok! Post motor filter popping out, rear under carriage and brush bar mounting problems seem to be a biggy on these.
I talked about a DC41 in a thread I had to use in an emergency last summer - 'kin' shite!

I think it was Beko who said "get a good refurbed DC07/14 with a new motor in it and you won't look back!"
