Need help on DC-39 Teardown
« on: February 07, 2015, 07:17:14 pm »
Hi I am stuck on my DC39 teardown...
I can not get the "post filter assy" to separate from the "CRU /Upper ball chassis", does anyone have any advice how to achieve this? What is the trick? I am working off the schematic and really cant find any information online so far...please help!!

Yes I did read this and it was very helpful it got me 50% to the issue. I needed to remove the post filter, and that's where I got stuck. But after a few hours of prying through the schematic and machine, I finally figured it out... You just have to pull it out once unscrewed, there are clips that hold it in, one on the back  you can access and press to release and two more holding it to the duct of the cru and those don't have a release, so with force it pops right out. But I could have saved myself allot of aggravation had I known the cru assembly release,  but finally found the trick to release the cru assembly with ease from the top assembly... Unfortunately now I have completely dissebled the cru which could have been avoided, had I known the trick to release it, and is going to be a pain to put back together...but at least I have now completely stripped down the dc39!! So after a good clean, lube, and fresh filters, should be easy enough to assemble the machine once I get over the cru assembly rebuild.... Hopefully I ll have it running the way I need it too!!

I have the same problem. I need to replace the power switch but I cant get the top cover off. I looked at your instructions but I am still not sure how this works. There is a little white pin on each side that seems to hold it down but I cant push it in. See attached photo.

Ok those tabs are not it...you have to get to the cru, to do that you have to first remove the top duct assembly it has a screw just under it, it should be visible once you hit the button which releases the canister, but  the screw can not be accessed until you detach the top duct assembly which is held in place by two clips left and right of the duct's base front. Hit the button the duct will pop up, and by pinching the front of the base of the duct pressure  on those clips will release it, you can now get to the screw. I Have to review the schematic again but either the two other screws become accessible at this point from the top and the unit will release giving you access to the power switch, or you have to remove the post filter and two more screws become accessible from the bottom. Let me know if you understand so far and I'll have a closer look at the schematic...but this is what tricked me up. It's all very easy if you come in from the top, I tackled it from the bottom up and ended up tearing down the cru, and it did not need to happen...

Ok it releases from the top once the top duct assembly is removed, I believe it's three screws that become available at that point and it frees the cru there is another large clip to the rear of the post filter, I believe that has to be released as well in order for the unit to come free, and "then pressure applied to the two white visible clips" help release it as well, it's simple and straight forward from that point...I remember kicking myself after realizing the simplicity, but dyson is notorious for the hidden clips...  let me know if this helps, I'll try to walk you through it if need be...I am working on another vacuum at the moment and trying to recall all the details of the dc39 a bit hazy...maybe time to do a tear down and reassemble video...? But it was very straight forward once you find the hidden clips...

Finally got I open but it was tough. I had to get into the housing from the side with a long screwdriver to release the two clips on the side. I will try to post some photos when I put it back together.

Hello from good ol' US of A! Thanks for the tips! I've got refurbished DC39C and feel that HEPA filter was not replaced. Hopefully, I'm wrong, but soon after the purchase my vacuum began overheating and kept shutting down. I could feel the hot air is blown out of the back. Checked for obstacles in the hoses assembly: none. Well after the warranty expired, I've decided to check the HEPA filter, and found it dirty and partly clogged up. Your instructions helped a lot, but I feel that crucial picture is missing. Therefore, here it is. Thanks again for excellent information!
