DC15 Roller bar not working
« on: February 23, 2015, 03:13:38 pm »
Hi

I have a problem with DC15, the roller bar is not rotating.

I have followed the instructions on other posts.  The top switch is ok.  Disconnecting the white wires to the pcb doesn't solve the problem.  The fuse is ok.

Using a meter I cannot detect any voltage (dc or ac) on the output from the pcb to the motor.  I cannot read any impedance across the motor from the pcb.

I assume I need a new pcb or a motor but not sure how I can decide which.

Help appreciated

regards

If there is no PCB output when reclined with main motor running,  then it's either the PCB,  or possibly the PCB and brushroll motor if you're  unlucky. A continuity test across the brushroll motor terminals should rule that in or out.
Sometimes the PCB to yoke loom breaks and takes out the fuse on the PCB.

Have you got power going into the PCB?

What ohm reading do you get across the motor?

Hi thanks for help.  It helps if you have a meter that wirks properly!!

I have now confirmed that the pcb is ok (at least there is voltage at the motor terminals.)

I cannot measure any resistance across the motor terminals so it's either the wires or the motor.  What's the best way of getting access to the motor terminals?

What DC voltage do you have reaching the motor terminals?

Well Im getting somewhere but nowhere fast.  New multimeter means I can measure 300+ dc across the motor at the pcb outlet.  Having taken the brush motor out (wow that's not easy and getting it back us a real b....r) I can measure 75 ohms across the motor but no dc.  Puzzle is the Orange and yellow wires from the Pcb change into black and white on the brush motor.  Suspect these have may broken.  Where does this happen and is it easy to get at so I can test continuity?

I've seen your great video about replacing the main motor and may follow that if I can be bothered.  James Dyson didn't think too much on how to maintain this one did he.

Thanks for the advice to date.

Bob

Ps I've confirmed the red switch on the top and the one that goes to the two white wires on the pcb are doing what they are meant to.

Suspect you need one of these:
https://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/DC15-PCB-Yoke-Loom-907280-03
Yoke loom failure is a known fault on the DC15 and some other ball models. Luckily a lot cheaper than the brushroll motor.
That same thread about a main motor change also explains how to access the loom wiring to check it.

hi

You are absolutely right, its broken right beside the connectors  If only I had known about the cover that hid the connectors from the pcb to the motor (where they go from orange/yellow to black/white) shown in your sequence on replacing the main motor.  Obvious when you know!

Brilliant service, I'm ordering a loom right now.

thanks so much for your help

Bob
