DC16 starts and stop with solid red light after one second
« on: February 05, 2021, 09:31:44 pm »
I have a DC16 that has been very lightly used.  When I press the trigger, it runs for just over a second and then stops with a solid red light.  If I put the vacuum on it's side, it seems to run for two seconds before getting a solid red light.

I've cleaned all the filters.  I read that the hall effect sensor might be bad so I did bypass it with a jumper wire, but it did not fix the problem.

I just noticed that if I try to suck on a nitrile glove to make it work harder, it will run continuously with a green light!  Any ideas?

How long have you had it? You’ve done well- The DC16 first came out 15 years ago, and was riddled with faults, mainly battery related. Even now, most cordless machines only last approx 3-5 years on average. Sorry I cannot exactly pinpoint where your issue lies, but I’m just saying don’t be too disheartened if it’s beyond economical repair

I've had it about 10 years.  I've only used it a dozen times or so.  It started having this problem early in it's life, but I just thought I had to clean the filters.  I've put off doing that for quite a while.  I've found a few threads of people having similar problems.  I'm going to try a new aftermarket battery and see if that works before I move on.

Just want to update the thread.  I got the cheapest battery from Amazon for $18 and the vacuum works fine now!

That's very cheap for a battery. You may find yourself needing another new one before long.
