Found this at the first car boot of the year!

We went back to my mates house first as the weather was so good, SWMBO said we would drop his car off at his, he grab some clothes and we have a BBQ (this was BH weekend and very hot)
I had a quick play whilst Eva cried about something
Very nice!
Electronic speed control

Brushes have seen better days

Slight blockage by the tool port

sorted that out

The cable had soem damage, thankfully very near the top

Possibly the best use for hair clips I think I;ve seen...

Filters werent too dirty on the surface

Gave the filters a quick vac out

Noticed a missing screw whilst looking at the brushes

and the state of the brushroll

so I emptied the brushroll...

I then noticed, once the brushroll was back in that the end seal had become dislodged

so popped the motor cover off. All of the screws were loose...

fitted the seal

and fitted the motor cover and tightened all the screws fully.
Then I made it clean up its own mess...
Those worn brushes dont help it here... but it works well. I didnt put the rear wheels back in correctly as you can see when they all fall apart during the video but hey ho, as the next night...

Starting from the top

cable off

Back of the handle off

top cord hook off

The wiring at the top, but also a massive bomb...

I had to dust it off to take reference shots for the wiring

Supressor out first

Spine wiring out

and the mains cable out. elbow and clip out

The elbow has a tear in it sadly

Unscrewed the handle top

Switch out

Onto the next level now

Half full bag was removed

Panel underneath the top handle removed to reveal more wiring!

to reveal a top of the range electronic speed control!

The wiring was simpler than I thought it would be though, wire to the switch goes in one side

and the wire is removed

and the wiring to the motor the other side

it all then lifts out

Isn't it amazing what these new fangled electronics can do nowadays!

Pulling the speed controller off also make the rotary knob the other side fall off...

I tapped out the hinge pins next and the top half was seperated

Lower cord hook/carry handle next

Moving down again now

the tool port cover was removed
Onto underneath now

I removed what was left of the rear wheels

Base plate hose removed from the machine and base plate

Looking at the brushroll this one has bearings built onto the brushroll

Motor cover off again

Front wheels off

Motor compartment seal next

The motor has 3 wires running to it

There's a wire holder

and the motor is out

Bit of wear in the dislodged seal where it was moving about but nothing serious

Top seal off

I took the fancase off

and cleaned the baffles. The fans dont come off on these motors.
Onto the height adjuster next

2 brackets and it was out

There's a suction release valve on the bottom too

Could get a decent pic of the ratings plate now!

All ready for washing

Whilst it was drying I spent a few hours cleaning the cable

Then, everything else was ciffed too, and it was time for re-assembly

The release slider was refitted

Front bumper was refitted

Height adjuster refitted

Spinal cord wriggled with difficulty into place

Using one of my daughters shoes I propped the bottom half up a bit so the 2 halves sit properly without me having to hold it

Motor was refitted

front wheels and motor cover refitted

I re packed the brushroll bearings with grease

Refitted the beater bars

unwrapped some new brush strips

and fitted them

refitted the brushroll with a new belt

Refitted the internal hose with a bit of reinforcing tape at the top as it was starting to wear through

Getting there

Rear wheels were refitted (properly this time)

The cable was pushed into it's hole

and the lower cord hook fitted

The bag compartment was looking a bit cleaner

Both filters washed up very well so they got refitted

I bought it a new bag slide as I dont have any

Got a new bag out of the shed

Fed the switch wiring through the handle

I neglected to take pictures of refitting the speed control, but refitted it was!

Switch and cables were wired up, with the cable cut short below the damage

I had a quick test on low power as it was quite late
Not a valid youtube URL
and it worked very well.
It was then polished!

This made it VERY shiny again

This afternoon, I put a few coats of wax on it!

And she's back to looking great after 34 years! And has a new owner already which is nice!
