DC05 Motorhead brush won't spin!
« on: May 28, 2015, 01:25:50 am »
Does the way you wire the machine from inside the vac affect the brush motor? I just refurbed mine today and I am sure the brush motor works. The main motor works but the brush motor wont. I have tried all 3 settngs and so I then took the floor head and connected a 12 volt thing to it, the green light showed up and the brush tried to spin, not enough power for it tho so yh, any ideas? Could it be the switch? In setting 1 and 2 the main suction motor works. In the zorb setting the machine is dead.

PS I removed the wand and attached the floor head to the main handle, still would not work, but the wand rattles a little?

Also, would it be alright if I bypass the wires so that the suction motor still works, BUT I get the wires for the brush motor and connect them straight to the  switch?

Have you had the machine open?

Yes I have, I refurbed it too and I'm not sure if either the controls are faulty or if I have wired the vacuum wrong

Refresh my memory, what do you mean by Zorb setting? You mean the slidey switch on the wand?

Yes there are 3 settings;
1) Vacuum suction only
2) Brushbar motor and suction motor working
3) Brushbar on only with no suction and I think its meant to be running at half speed? This is called the Zorb setting, when I put my Dyson on this setting it's completely dead

I wanna get this machine mint, it works soooo well, I had been using DC14's for like a year everyday and a DC25, then I used my DC05 motorhead and the bin got 1/4 full from the whole house :o

There isn't a single component in that wand set up that is always the culprit. Its a question of testing it with a meter at each point.

I think it's the switch, cos both motors work perfectly fine, if I look at the switch inside, the contacts looked dirty so I got a cotton bud and cleaned it out, still the same

Yes, but you need to know if its the feed to the switch, and if power is leaving the switch.

Hmm, IDK but I don't think I will be doing that yet, maybe in the future as I'm busy and it's not really needed tbh but thanks for the advice, will ask you when I want to get it over and done with ;D

Hehe same, I wasn't expecting it to be better than like a DC04 but I think it's better than a clutched DC04! Non clutched Dysons are more powerful tho, but I am so confused as to why my Dc05 motorhead nearly got full even tho I had been using perfectly fine  DC14's and a DC25. We also have a silver/lime Dc04 aswell which we owned from new like 4 years ago
