DC17 Animal
« on: June 06, 2015, 08:31:15 pm »
I've not got my hands on a DC17 before now as it's a US spec machine.

Thought I'd post up some photos up for others who've not seen one before either. It seems to be a mix of UK DC14, DC18 and DC27.

It did come in a joblot but local to me and not off eBay.

Not decided what to do with it yet - can't test as it's 110v and not got a step down transformer  :'(

It just stands there taunting me each day at the moment  :))

Hehe I like the DC17, some Americans complain about it being too aggressive on carpets! Do you have a pic of underneath the vac? Would appreciate it very much thanks ;D I might import a DC17 off eBay one day and possibly a DC28 aswell

No problem, I'll grab a photo of the underneath

It's actually seems very similar to the DC28 I had a while ago - when I opened the DC28 up the cleanerhead assembly was so complicated and the motor spindle was toothed to drive the belt. I gave up at the point as there was no option to convert to UK spec so broke it for spares for a DC27.

I assume this will be similar but not had a chance to check it out yet.

OMG you had a DC28!!! ;D that's so wicked! whoah
I saw a pic of a DC17 motor and I think it looks like an american DC07/14 one but without the spindle so maybe a DC08 motor will fit? Possibly a DC05 motor or something but the brush motor is quite big, I was thinking of securing a DC25 motor in there and the pcb on the side ;D lol

You're absolutely right Parwaz - just Googled it and these are the two motors.

First is the DC28 motor and second a DC17 so maybe a DC25 motor might fit!

Hehe awesome! Are you going to convert it to a UK 240V DC17?  That would be AMAZING!!! ;D
Now the brush motor is the only issue, I guess you could find an alternative :)  I wonder what you could do to that motor to make it 240v?

Hopefully it's not too complex, fingers crossed that it will be a bit like a non clutched Dyson with something like a motor behind the floating brush housing ;D

I had a thought where you can shove a DC25 brush motor into the DC17. I know it's smaller but hey ho there's space for the PCB and you can wrap electrical tape on the top and the bottom of the motor to make it "fat and big enough" to fit into the housing ;D the PCB is tiny anyways luckily. I have a feeling this will be a successful project ;D
