DC25 Animal
« on: July 01, 2015, 12:17:55 pm »
We have an old DC25 Animal and the other day were having trouble getting it to fully recline. I played with it for a bit and eventually a screw fell out onto the floor that clearly played a role in the problem. It's one of the black screws with the serrated washers. I have seen the exploded views of this machine in another post and those are helpful but need some additional diagrams. It appears the screw that came out can only be put back in by removing the ball/motor assembly which I hesitate to try without instructions. I began taking the right side apart and the foot pedal spring has popped off. I'm wanting to stop and put things back together but I'm having trouble getting the spring oriented correctly. I want to at least use the vacuum temporarily until I fix the reclining problem. Anyone have something more detailed than the exploded views? They seem to be low resolution drawings. Thanks in advance.  -Miles

Did you have a look at Beko's spiffing DC25 strip down topic?

Looking behind the machine, is the right hand side of the red pedal pivot held in place? Is it held in place by a screw or is it missing? That's a black screw with a washer  which might be the one?

Okay the tear-down photos were very helpful for getting the pedal pivot spring back in the right orientation. So I have it back together now to where it was when the screw came out. The screw that fell out is not from the pivot pedal. It appears to attached some sort of black level associated with the pivot pedal but the screw has to go in from the back side. In other words I don't see any way of getting it back in without taking the ball/motor housing off. I took some pictures, see attached. Does anyone think I can get this screw back in without total dis-assembly?

Ah, that screw holds the black lever that helps recline the mechanism.

Yep, you need to remove the ball housing. Not too tricky tbh.

tbh thanks for the photo, that confirms what I thought. I spoke with Dyson the other day and they said I could send it back and they would repair under warranty. I'm handy but I'm a little afraid of getting the thing apart and not being able to get it back together. Even with all the helpful tear down and reassembly photos. I'm leaning toward doing that.

Fair enough, if Dyson will do the hard work for you, I can't argue with that!

I think you can leave the yolk assembly on (the bit the brushroll clicks on to) and remove the motor, theres a screw under the panel held on with 3 screws on one side, and a screw hiding under the square hose on the other side. Unplug the big white connector and clip the ball out. It'll still be held in with a very thin wire, but should be off enough to get at the screw.

Dont think there's any way round that, I imagine with use the black part will just ping off and get lodged somewhere!
