The clutch on our DC27 animal has stopped deactivating, so the brush bar still spins when the cleaner is parked in the upright position. I'm guessing that it will require anew clutch unit. Is this a fairly easy fix, I consider myself a fairly competent DIYer

Yes, a simple fix assuming it's similar to the DC07/14: remove soleplate and brushroll, then the brushroll holder. Remove the clutch cover (3 screws). Unhook belt from motor spindle and the clutch then just pulls out (needs a good tug sometimes). Reverse sequence to replace.
The job is a lot easier with a belt removal tool, though not essential. You'll otherwise just need a T15 Torx driver.

It is a similar process to the DC07/14....BUT...the DC27 is horribly over-engineered and a real pain to work on.

Just removing the brushbar housing from the footplate is a  :censored:
