Hi Tech 20 & welcome to the forum. Have you tried:  Digikey, Farnell or RS components ? They all sell filters that will do the job.

Hi Tech12 and thanks for the suggestion.

I have accounts with them all and spent some time online but most of them are much thicker than the original and there is little space inside the motor housing. Awaiting response from machine manufacturer and as a last resort I think that the original manufacturer whose name is on it is still in existence so will be trying them on Monday. Having spent 40 years as a design engineer I have amassed the necessary class X & Y caps and could at a pinch get the inductors and make my own but by the time I have done this and potted it its probably not worth my time. I perhaps need to search a but harder but "the Governor" has more jobs for me to do today so will park it for the time being.

Hi: No problem, we're here to help.
Just been thinking, you might be better looking at somewhere like HSCL or Quаltex for a good match.

Many thanks. Will try later but if I want to watch the GP tomorrow I have to do other stuff now ;-) . The filter is electrically a bog standard filter its just the housing that's shaped in such a way to fit a circular housing. I'm sure I'll sort it. Again thanks.

Home spares are listing quite a few filters, at least 1 looks to be the size of a largeish radial cap.

Have a good weekend. If you need more info on it, let me know & I'll take a look.

Sorry Tech 20, I misread what you'd written. Home spares do sell VAX parts so would be well worth you contacting them.

RS components

I've used them for the Omron relays, DIN rail and 4001 back EMF protection diodes when I have done EU light conversions on Ford Mustangs. Good firm, they have almost everything.

My stepdads got loads of old 70s/80s rs components stuff,  from back when he built a computer  properly,  not just plug the parts together.

In their day RS were the spares supplier that every other supplier aspired to be. When I started in the Electronic repair trade at the tender age of 15,  virtually everything we sourced whether it be components or tools & test equipment came from RS.

My father now 83 used to buy all of his stuff from RS but they are not the company they were. I have components coming out of my ears having been in the industry myself for 40 years. I used to design power supplies and then microcomputers in the days when the 6502 was new. This filter is not complex electrically at all and I have already identified a few options. Its the shape and size that's the issue as its only 20mm thick. Photos attached.

Hey beko:  Did you keep the filter you took out of your 121 ?.
If your not going to use it, I'm sure tech 20 could put it to good use.

That's a shame. Never mind. If I do find either a suitable replacement or the original company still has the ability to make them I will report back guys. Thanks.
