I found this whilst trying to find the dating system for the 1334 as per the Dyson Arms thread, this is for the 119 though

Model 119 Hoover Junior, Bronze & Dark Brown, Produced October 1950 - December 1956
Serial Numbers:
K 10,000 = October 1950
K 100,000 = january 1951
K 200,000 = June 1951
K 300,000 = November 1951
K 400,00 = May 1952
K 500,000 = December 1952
K 600,000 = July 1953
K 700,000 = December 1953
K 800,000 = May 1954
K 900,000 = December 1954
KG 100,000 = March 1955
KG 200,000 = August 1955
KG 300,000 = January 1956
KG 430,430 = July 1956 Production End

So that places this one at the very beginning of the run between Oct 1950 and Jan 1951 being 08xxxx!

Hi Chums!

So, through a lesser known delivery service called Shitely, I met someone's sister in a layby by the M40 in the pissing rain earlier, and came home with this bucket of magnificence!

I plugged it in and it ran like crap!

So I had the bag out

So I grabbed the Miele and my small tiny hose for it and got cracking

Then broke the big guns out

With the bag clean, I popped to the shed and got a new belt, I got this pack with the pumpkin junior from ebay

and it ran much better. It's main problem is that one of the brushroll retaining springs has snapped, so the retaining emchanism flops about, and on the backwards stroke is pulled onto the brushroll causing the brushroll to jam a bit.

But, I had a plan, and popped into the loft...

Behold, the Mvacs 119, in all it's blurry glory! Can you spot the difference?

Both have the same genuine Hoover replacement grey 1960's bag too

I wanted to swap the handle bits and cable onto the mvacs 119, so off with the top part, the AS one was a bit worn*

but better condition paint wise

Peeled off the first layer of tape

Then the second

then under the third discovered that the rubber had gone completely broken

So I chissled it off with a screwdriver

Whilst I soaked the other handle to remove the rubber, I had a look underneath, and was met with this beautiful mottled bakelite

Wonder why it was different

Next step is to unwire the new one

then I found this whilst poking all the crap out the way. This was all the more worrying by a video that will be in the next post, it's only on 43% atm, and I cant be bothered to not post this!

The outer sheath on the nice original cable was cracked, so had to come off

Then I re-terminated the old cable, by god this stuff is a bastard to strip back

One for the plug pervs

I wired the ncie cable on to the nice 119, and fitted both handle segments, because they were better than the other ones, and improved my nice red lettered 119 by lots. Just a nice, original bag to find now!

Continuing the improvement on this 119, I bought a box of tools for a tenner posted recently, and finally got them out of my car and into the loft on Friday

No idea if the hose holds air though, it's a bit crunchy when bent, but it looks good. I also have a duplicate 119 instruction manual which can now go with this, so all I need to find now is an original bag! One day...

That tool set is in fantastic condition, and for only a tener! You seem to have very good luck with these things.

I can't stand how delicate those old hoses are, especially when fitted to a cylinder. Makes the entire machine useless.

We have a similar model in the US, the 115. I'm also on the lookout for a nice one. i currently have a cosmetically crappy one with a bunch of replacement parts which I still use from time to time.

It was a bit spontaneous! It's not 100% complete, but good enough for display! I've not tested the hose for air tightness yet, and possibly never will!

Once I find an original bag, it will look nice in the photo's!

I do like the look of those, they look very nice and old... Being around old stuff makes me feel alive, not like the new stuff... Makes me feel dead.

Well, courtesy of Mr Beko, this machine made its way back to us recently (very nice that was of of him too). When a few finishing bits are done it will reside in our museum.

Although I plugged it in and it doesn't work! Can't be much, are you short of fuses down your end, Sam?  :chuckle:

But here's a funny thing: Sam sent it back up with the non gen blue bag on there and original brown ones are very thin on the ground. I haven't seen one of these since this one a couple of years back when the topic was started. Then, out of the blue, two days after this one arrived back, we got a call from someone who asked if we wanted an "old Hoover Junior" for free as we were closer than the tip. We said yes and it was dropped off the next day.......

What's the chances?

The original plug for that 119 would have been the adjustable 2 pin 'HOOVER' round rubber one. The one that was also supplied with an adaptor to plug into the light bulb socket so you could just remove the lightbulb in a room and plug the vac in !!!!!! oh the good old days.

Well, the one we had donated not only is an identical 119, but has a decent original brown bag on there (that is needed), but it also still has the light switch plug fitting as described by Ian above. So between the two, we'll end up with a very original Junior 119.

Fantastic!

No idea why it doesn't work though, all I can think of is I pinched the fuse for something else, always borrow a known working one... It ran the last time I used it!

You'll have to post it back for fettling!

Nice score on the bag and plug! Always said the only way to get a good bag nowadays is with a scrapper machine! You could buy a cheapo table lamp and use the bayonet plug for demo's too! I keep meaning to get my nice 119 together, I can now I don't have two!

You gonna get the spares machine running enough to use as a shop floor demo? Pop the genuine but not proper bag on, new brushroll bearings and a belt and it should be ok!

This is my one, the main reason I gave you this one back!

The paintwork is nowhere near as good as your one, but I can't change the chassis as the serial number won't match the ORIGINAL PAPERWORK!  8)

Ah well now you have a dilemma, you have both types now, red writing and gold writing... Get your tech to make the new one look like the other one! (then still need to find a bag...)

Nope. One good one from the pair. The rest of the other one will go for spares.
