dc05 removing elbow
« on: August 20, 2015, 04:05:43 pm »
I am trying to remove the elbow and saw instructions pull straight up.

I pulled but no joy.

Could you give me sthing a bit more detailed than pull? I'm about to buy a motor but I need to know which one.

I have always found the 05 elbow a bugger to remove.  Separate the 2 half's of the machine then look at the underside of the top, there are 2 tabs that need to be pushed in and a stumpy thing that goes through the vent, gently spread the vents open a bit and then place a screw driver on the stumpy thing and strike it, it should pop out.  Helps if you have 4 hands and patients, but keep the supper glue handy  :angryman:

thanks for the answer, it turns out that I don't need to remove that elbow to replace the motor.

now, the white H filter how do I know if it needs replacing? it's white with a few smudges of black and it's black inside.

also inside the plastic housing what could / should be cleaned?

If you have fitted a new motor,  fit a new filter,  and pre motor filter if its been in a while.  Can always wash the old pre filter and have it for when you need to wash the new one,  can just swap them over!

the new motor has red and black wires and IIRC the housing has blue and brown. does it matter to have the correct coupling? what would happen if the wires are reversed? what goes with what?

Either nothing,  nothing and a burny smell,  a massive bang,  itll run then burn out or itll run fine.  My money is on one of the first 3, but ive never tried it tbh.

I wired a turbopower 2 motor the wrong way once and it ran,  then burnt out...

Actually, you can run motors either way. Reversing polarity isn't so important (think of Euro plugs). It just makes them spin the other direction I recall reading.

That makes sense whwn you say it like that.  Older motors click as you spin them backwards,  its the brushes having worn to one way forever.

Are any motors ever spun 'backwards'? I presume the fan is different,  ie backwards...

You would think it mattered, fan design, blow/suck, etc.

But we have Euro cable rewinds, and they plug in either way.  :grinn:
