Airwatts
« on: September 28, 2015, 12:04:29 am »
I thought I would do a list of Dyson models airwatts to show how powerful certain Dyson are so people know which one has the most suction etc and would be interesting to see how they evolved and what you think of this ;D

DC01-90 AW
DC02-90 AW I think
DC03-90 AW
DC04-230AW
DC05-255AW
DC07-330AW
DC08-330AW
DC11-330?AW
DC14-290AW
DC15-?
DC19/20...- 290AW
DC24-120AW
DC25-220AW
DC26-170AW
DC27-255AW
DC28-255 I think
DC33-255AW
DC40-200AW
DC41-255 AW
So I believe that Dyson have been improving properly till the DC07 but then with the DC07 (early models) people complained about the suction being too powerful and so made the next upright (DC14) less powerful and they changed other things like the wand etc for a better design too. After the DC14, the suction went lower and lower, in the 200 range as Dyson say it's enough to clean with and isn't too powerful either.

Would be interesting to know your thoughts and opinions ;D

It's interesting to see the differences. Have to say I've never fully understood Air Watts vs motor wattage, being bought up with motor watts only on display.

Looking at your list though, it seems to me that design has as much to play with air watts as power, going by the machines I have expereience of on your list:

DC01-90 AW - 1000w
DC02-90 AW I think - 1200w?
DC03-90 AW - 750w
DC04-230AW - 1200/1400w
DC05-255AW - 1400w
DC07-330AW - 1400w
DC08-330AW - 1400w
DC11-330?AW - 1400w?
DC14-290AW - 1400w
DC15-? - 1200w?
DC19/20...- 290AW (my DC22 is 1200w)
DC24-120AW - 650w
DC25-220AW - 1200w

Interesting how all the 1200w machines have different air watts, although probably not surprising. We all know the DC02 isnt the last word in refined design, and the cyclone assemblies differ greatly between all the models.

I want one of those air meter things I've seen the Americans bang on about on Vacuumland, that could provide interesting geeky statistics, comparing a 350w Junior against a 2200w Miele etc

I want one of those too, would be coo to test vacuuma which dont have the suctin measured in airwatts
Wish people didnt complain cos I had a nice dc07 allergy (uk model) and it was a bit like an origin one focusing the suction

So basically according to Dyson's website, the newest upright Ball Animal 2 also has only 90AW.
It doesn't seem like a lot, but the suction seems to be really strong

Yep! Believe it or not but the Ball Animal 2 and light ball clean carpets better than the DC07 and those have between 290 AW and 330 AW of suction! Why? Because of the design and engineering that has gone into the cleanerhead

I think the DC07s are great. Lots of suction and the clutchless ones are amazing at digging deep into the carpet.

Heck I even had a DC07 that was too powerful and wouldn't move I had to remove the soleplate seals!
